Does anyone know what happened to the people here? Was anyone in contact with Al or Ed? Leon?

ed and al stayed out too late investigating the gate last night

I had been waiting for Leon...Squall...and sending messages. I was hoping that he was just having trouble with his tablet.

No, they didn't find anything.

[He pulls a face to himself. It was for nothing, then. No. It was for something.]

That tells us there isn't an answer at the gate for now. We can refocus our efforts. We'll have to thank them when they do get back.

[ Sheena's still staring at her tablet when John sits next to her, and she looks at him with a haunted expression as he puts his arm about her. ]

Out too late? What...what were they doing?

[ She looks back at her tablet before totally accepting the comfort by placing her head on his shoulder. Al's her friend, and while she had never met Ed, he's important to Al, and that's good enough for her. And Leon... He had been there for her too many times to count. Her voice is soft when she speaks. ]

I had been traveling with Leon, but he wanted to go back to the Police Station, and I didn't. If only I... [ Would things have been different if she had been there? Would he be alive?

She looks up and gives John a sad smile. ] I hope so, too.

[ They're gone.

They're both gone again and it'd been such a sloppy mistake, too.

But he can't get himself to feel angry at Al in the end. Not when all he can feel is the unpleasant twist inside him at the realization that there's a good chance he might never see them again.

Al, you promised. ]

[ She doesn't even know what to say to that. She's so done with this horrible place. ]

Looking at the gate down at the entrance. What they did helps us, but the cost... [He shakes his head.]

And, hey, don't start that. [John gives her shoulder a little squeeze.] You couldn't have known what would happen, and you being there might not have changed things. Just focus on thinking about how you're going to tell him off when he gets back, okay?

Have you still got Zach or someone else with you?

[Because it seems like a good idea for her not to be alone tonight.]

I still have Kes. And I have to take care of myself to take care of her.

[ Even if she's... not the best big sister without Zach around forcing her to eat three meals a day. ]
