[log] Hey man, wanna buy some soap? [closed?]
Characters: Charles, Levi, anyone else who'd be here?
Location Building 126
Date: Night 135
Summary: People going opposite directions get stuck together
Warnings: Language
I'll do a top level in case someone else shows up!
Building Description: A mostly ruined house--at first it looks as if it won't provide any shelter, but a closer inspection reveals a musty bedroom still seals up properly. There's a mattress to sleep on, but decorations are sparse.

[ACTION WOOO]
Maybe as a distraction, maybe as a way to not be so alone, he's currently trolling the network. Kunsel's group found a new area, so that's cool. A bunch of new people showed up, so that sucks. In between harassing some dude in armor and talking to Jim, Charles is still reading through all those crazy-ass links in Stephanie's guide, making notes to himself. Keeping busy.
It's semi close to lockdown, so he's not expecting anyone else to show up. Even so, he's dragged the mattress into a corner of the room, then wedged himself upright where he can see the door. One arm is draped over his bag, the other one's holding the tablet, and his hatchet is across his knees.
Too bad he isn't exactly paying attention.]

great. looks like he has a roommate tonight.
he crosses the room and plunks his bag down in the opposite corner before turning back to Charles. ]
Who're you?
[ there's an obvious lack of interest in his tone, but he's asking anyway. ]
no subject
Charles watches him a little warily, but he doesn't seem to be trying anything, so there's that. He'll play nice for now.
ish.]
Wow, rude. People usually introduce themselves first, don't they?
Who're you?
no subject
all of these things probably have something to do with the especially pissy mood he's in tonight. he plops down against the opposite wall and starts digging around in his backpack. fine, he'll go first. ]
Levi.
[ so nice to meet you, stranger. ]
no subject
[He's seen some names on the network today that he can't even pronounce. He doesn't quite remember this one, but if he's being honest, he mostly skimmed the introductions.]
I'm Charles. You new here? Don't think I've seen you around before. You know, [he makes a wavey hand motion over the tablet,] around. Unless you've got one of those weird usernames. Or you just don't talk much.
[A problem Charles is not having tonight, apparently.]
no subject
[ casually, as he pulls out one of his newbie (sort of) rations. he's kinda over it at this point. ]

People can stay dead for two whole months? Jesus.
Does that mean everyone comes back eventually, or just that you never know?
[He's mostly thinking out loud, but he'll accept suggestions.]
no subject
[ who's Jesus? don't worry, he doesn't care enough to ask. ]
But no, it doesn't mean anything. I got lucky, if you can call it that. Plenty of people don't come back.
no subject
Great. Congrats, I guess? You remember being dead, or what?
[That is also probably not the appropriate response.]
no subject
[ clipped and irritated. more irritated, anyway. ]
You'd think I'd remember freezing to death, if that's even what happened.
no subject
I don't know. I haven't asked Charlie yet if he remembers. [Wait, does anyone else even know that Charlie died yet? Whatever, he's alive already again, so.] Isn't freezing to death supposed to be like, sleeping or something?
Anyway, what was up before that? I haven't been here two months, but I've read a lot. I can get you up to speed on what's gone down.
no subject
[ the cold wasn't something he was especially worried about killing him back home. plenty of other things were much more likely. ]
Before that I was just traveling around with some people. Nothing unusual really happened beyond being here in the first place.
no subject
[It's a rhetorical 'what else'; he seems to be thinking.]
no subject
[ how about no?? ]
What's underground?
no subject
[He finishes with a shrug.]
If I had to guess, I'd say what's down there is the system that's running the town.
no subject
it was probably the "bigass monster" part that did it. ]
What kind of monster?
no subject
Uh. I'm not- It was some kind of mass of limbs and shit. Like it was made out of a bunch of people. [He swallows.] But that's only- It didn't look like that at first. At first it looked like- [my sister] like regular people.
no subject
So it can disguise itself?
no subject
[He thinks for a second.] I don't think it was doing it on purpose.
no subject
he'll need to pass all of this on to someone smarter. ]
And no one knows how to get down there? Convenient. [ hard to kill it that way, but then again, he's not exactly equipped for fighting monsters right now. ] Did it hurt or kill anyone?
no subject
[About that second part...] It kind of... melted one of the elf dudes.
no subject
...wait, what did Charles just say? ]
Melted?
[ he's not really that surprised, but he is disgusted. holy shit. poor elf dude... ]
no subject
[Oops that's nasty. But he asked.]
no subject
he glances briefly back at the food he'd been planning on eating. he'd never waste food, but he's... gonna give it a few more minutes. something about eating directly after hearing an account of someone who melted seems kind of messed up.
unfortunately, that doesn't mean he's going to stop talking about it. sorry, friend. ]
So it's like the anomalies in that we can't do shit to it? Was he using a weapon or did he touch it directly?
no subject
My guess is it's probably some kind of super anomaly or something. 'Course I don't remember all of this super clearly since I was like dying or whatever at the time. You missed radiation sickness too, did I mention that? I think I did. Anyway some of this is what I pieced together afterwards.
no subject
he curses under his breath. he doesn't know who Haurchefant is, but the "elf dude" has his respect already. he's known way too many people who sacrificed themselves for others or for the mission. at least this one got to come back. ]
Somebody told me about the radiation when I first came back. It'd be nice if there was something we could do to prevent that from happening again.
[ ...that and the whole... melting thing. let's not do that again, either. ]
no subject
... Unless you meant keep us from getting sick again. Apparently that was just because there wasn't enough power. Not sure how to fix that one. Which I guess is why we're sticking to "it'd be nice".
no subject
no, he had no idea that was a thing. but it's obviously not an option anyway, so for once his ignorance isn't really a hindrance. plus, can you imagine everyone stuck in the same building together? eesh. ]
Seems like the more people who get dragged here the more likely it would be to get overloaded and fail again. Though with the amount of death, maybe it evens out.
[ he likes to look on the bright side, you see. ]
no subject
I'm not sure if it got overloaded or if it's just old. Who the hell knows how long this thing's been running without maintenance? Which is what everybody who got dragged downstairs apparently did: maintenance. So in theory it won't keel over and murder us all now, but. [He shrugs.] We have computers and shit in my world, but nothing even close to this, as far as I know. So hell if I know how it all works.
no subject
in any case, he's finally going to go for his food now. speaking of shitty... at least he's already used to this. ]
Yeah, well, maybe it'd get maintenance more often if there wasn't a fucking monster down there. Knowing how to get there might help, too.
[ has anyone tried just digging?? ]
no subject
no subject
No idea. Someone has to have asked that by now, though.
