Well, yeah. Some have been worse than others, but we've managed. The world is still standing. We're tougher than we look.

[See, that's a joke.]

I've been involved in previous prevention efforts, yes.

That might be difficult to determine without looking at you.

[A counter-joke! He really does try hard.]

May I ask what type of world-ending crises you are normally involved in? I'm assuming that there's some kind of organisation at play. Maybe a team. We seem to like those around here.

In that case, just imagine me as impressive as you like.

Typically? Disasters, invasions, and Earth-destroying entities that apparently think we're only good for squashing or subjugating. I will say I'm a bit more experienced with the first of those rather than the planet-shaking threats, but they happen.

Yes, we have response groups for said threats. After the first few times, everyone got tired of being out-numbered.

Wise enough. Good luck bringing this cooperative attitude here - I don't mean this sarcastically. Well, not very

I don't suppose any Earth-destroying entities have ever been of the sort that might be captured, stored under a city, accidentally rupture time and space, and proceed to project unsettling dreams in an attempt to communicate?

Are you sure that isn't a god of some sort? A magical other-dimensional being? I really don't

That isn't really my area. We have people that do the magic thing. But that sounds like something they'd deal with, honestly. You think that is what is really under us right now?
bookofnope: (creepy glow eyes thing)

[personal profile] bookofnope 2016-08-12 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly? It could be any of the three. Or many other things that obey the general criteria. We have very little information on that particular issue, and even back home, every time I thought I'd seen it all...

The world finds a way to surprise you. Yeah, I know that feeling.

If it is some unstable entity, that might be why the Admin is so controlling. She doesn't necessarily know any better than we do.

It's a feeling I used to be very fond of. I'm finding myself resenting that no longer being the case.

[Norfinbury isn't the only reason for that, of course, but he isn't going there quite yet.]

That... is an interesting proposition. I haven't considered it. I was focused on thinking of the admin as the entity's interface, or vessel, or something similar. A popular arrangement in my experience.

I guess we can have too much of a good thing.

Eh, I guess I'm used to people like that giving monologues about how much the rest of us don't understand. Power drunk speeches or something more glamorous than subtle. Maybe it's just an image choice in my world.

There's surprising, and then there's nonsensical. The former is good. The latter just feels like the world spitting in your face.

I think I know the type. Monologuing does seem to be an unfortunately frequent side effect of communion with some great power, along with madness and an appalling deterioration of one's fashion sense. But if the admin is not connected to the entity, and is merely attempting to manage what she can while the town is under its influence, that would better explain why she seems so paradoxically both powerful and limited. She has vast resources, but they are occupied. Interesting.
definingfuture: (T - And what did I do this time?)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2016-09-01 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
See, that's what I was thinking. Usually they give long speeches about how superior they've become. The Admin is professional. She might not even fully understand what she's dealing with.

It's just a theory, but it's still in line with what we've seen.
