[He's briefly taken aback by Alfie's accent. Well, at least Wilson was right not to try lying to him. This guy sounds like he means business.]

James. Either James or Wilson is fine. [Just not Jimmy, please.] And you would be...

[Wilson scrolls up to take another look at his username. ASolomons. Solomons. Oh. Didn't House mention...? Oh boy. Ohhh boy.] Mr. Solomons, I presume?

Yeah. Alfie.

[He sounds fairly well-mannered right now, but good luck trying to determine how genuine that is, Wilson.]

You're from New Jersey too, then?

Ah. Nice to meet you, Alfie.

[Wilson is reasonably skeptical but that has more to do with his whole situation at this time than with Alfie personally. House can read people like a book but he's not without his own biases. Whatever the deal is between the two of them, Wilson would rather stay out of it. It's probably in everyone's best interest that he avoid meddling, anyway. At least for now.]

I am, yeah. House and I both head our own departments at one of the teaching hospitals. Are you from there, as well?

[His tone turns a little amused now.]

[Wilson stammers, a little embarrassed.] Well, you know. People move. Sometimes. London, though. Sounds... Nice. I've never been. What did you, um, do there? Before you ended up here. Where is here, by the way?

[Wilson blinks. A gang? Well then. So maybe House wasn't overexaggerating about Alfie being a murderer. But he seems... Nice enough, at least. Wilson isn't really in a position to judge, he figures.]

[Wilson furrows his brow.]

Oh. That doesn't sound terribly safe. Don't worry, I plan to keep a safe distance between myself and any, um, monsters. [He can't quite believe that sentence just came out of his mouth.]

You might have trouble getting your friend House to do the same. He does like throwing himself at trouble.

[It's public, so he isn't sure if Wilson has seen it or not.]

[He scoffs. Sure, House. Advise Wilson against outing their relationship, specifically to Alfie, and then immediately goes and does it himself. So much for trying to forge his own path. He scrolls around through the network briefly to see if he can find this conversation... Okay, vague as always. Friend could mean anything. God, Wilson really does not have the mental capacity for mind games right now, though. Dammit, House.]

House does whatever he's going to do. No one can change that. His trouble isn't my problem. [He shrugs. If only he could honestly believe that.]

That's a shame. The man could use someone looking out for him.

[Alfie doesn't know much about New Jersey, and he knows even less about the 2000s.]

Um, no, I don't think there's much of a neighborhood... But then again, I wouldn't know. I'm not exactly practicing, if I'm being honest. Sorry.

[Maybe he should be saying that's where he lived, past tense, but that's just too depressing.]

Oh. [Wilson tries to sound nonplussed. He hopes he hasn't upset Alfie by admitting he's nonpracticing, but dealing with that outright seems like a better decision for the long-term.]

I wasn't aware we had gangs. What, um, what did you do there? [He's not sure he really wants to know, but it seems rude not to ask...]

Bookmaking, mostly. Yeah, at the racetracks.

[Oh, well that sounds respectable. Sort of? Better than Wilson was expecting after House's warning. Then again, he figures "bookmaking" is hardly the extent of it, but... A fellow's got to make a living.]

So... What exactly has House been up to around here?

Baiting killers, loudly and often. It's a shame you two aren't close. He could use someone to check his reckless tendencies.

[Wilson pinches the bridge of his nose. Yep, that sounds like House. Honestly though, considering the circumstances, Wilson was prepared for worse. This pretty much sounds like just another day at the hospital.

More worrisome, though, is that Alfie sounds like he's caught on. Great. The disassociation he was going for lasted all of ten minutes.]

Our relationship is complicated. Even more so now that we appear to have a three-year gap between our last memories of home. [Wilson would really love to avoid being House's babysitter here too, but who is he kidding? There's no avoiding it. Even if House didn't need him, Wilson would follow along after him, cleaning up his messes anyway, if only for some sense of purpose in this place. Companionship sounds like it will be important here.

He runs a hand through his hair and is quiet for a moment.] I'll do what I can to run interference, but I can't be responsible for him. I'll help, but that's it. This is... There's too much for me to be his caretaker, too.

[It was easier back in Princeton. People knew him independently from House. He had his own reputation, his own practice, his own life. For the most part, anyway. Now, House has a head start and it hasn't been a good one. To top it off, he doesn't even remember the past three years. What a mess.]

Just, please, if you can help it, don't think of us as a package deal. I'd rather keep our knowing each other under wraps, at least for the time being. He's my friend, but he's still an asshole.

Besides - can't always be expected to help a man who doesn't want to be helped, can you. And you shouldn't be. So you won't get that expectation from me, eh? It's just something for you to be aware of.
