There's grief in his own heart, a burning gorge or rage rising in his throat knowing that they'd failed to protect Rhys and Angel. If they'd just caught up sooner. If John hadn't been a burned and gotten his head addled, if he'd focused more on getting through the tunnels instead of stopping to double-check for bombs...]
