Sort of rude to ask someone for a different name than the one they've given you, isn't it?

I didn't do that, did I? I asked if you have one, not what it is.

[ He laughs, and it's kind of a hissing, condescending noise. That's his regular laugh, too. ]

Maribor above, I'd never lie about my name. Think of all the people who might be disappointed in me if I lied about something as simple as that.

Well, then. Why don't you be Duster and I'll be Alfie, and maybe you'll be a little less defensive about it that way, eh?

I'm glad I have your permission to use my own name. [ Snark snark snark. ] If you want to call common sense defensiveness, that's your own business.

Not permission, mate. Acceptance. What I'm saying is, I won't bother you about it.

[ ... Well, that's kind of nice, actually. ]

Good. [ A beat, and now his voice sounds a little closer, like he's actually settled down. ] Have you found yourself on the map yet?

Sure, all of 'em. I haven't been able to figure out where I am on it, mind.

So you have no idea where you're currently at.

Nope. Haven't found any of the landmarks yet.

[ That's fine, Royce has no idea where he's at either. He takes a while to stare at his map, and then to look outside.

Alfie gets to hear the door open, and then the tablet clatters to the ground as Royce lets out a colorful string of swearing, some of the words distinctly a different language. ]

Cold.

Yeah. Goes down to your bones.

[ Up comes the tablet again, and Royce pulls his cloak closer, muttering a few more curses for good measure. He looks out at the long span of snow in front of him, bracing himself for how frozen to the bone he's going to be when he actually makes it out of the house. ]

Snow and ice in every direction. Pick a direction and go.

[ A small pause, and then: ] How much do you trust the word of any of the people here?

Middling. I'm not assuming all of 'em are lying, but I'm not going to bank my life on what they say, yeah?

Smartest thing I've heard all morning. [ And out into the snow he goes... ]

Most of 'em have probably got good intentions. But good intentions don't mean we're going to do right by each other.

Are you walking?

[He's listening to any telltale noises on Duster's end.]

[ Alfie's going to hear Royce making his way through the snow. Slowly, because he's short and while the snow isn't as bad, it's more than he's used to. He's making an effort to cover his tracks, as well. ]

I don't know where, but yes. There was nothing in the house I was in worth staying for.

I've read promising things about grocery stores.

[ Wryly: ] So have I. They're going to stay elusive and promising until I can figure out which way I'm going.

Mm. Could've done with a compass in this satchel.

[But alas.]

Gloves, too.

Sit on your hands. [ That's mostly a joke. ]
