Oh, Steve. It'll be okay, all right? So it might take a few days, but we'll find our way back.
[The words don't feel like enough, not at all. But she has nothing else to give him right now, which breaks her heart a little.]
I'll head south, then, and meet you in the middle if possible. The school has food anyway, right? I could do with some more of that. It will probably take me some time to sort myself out; I should look through the houses I pass to try and find some gloves.
[Peggy frowns at the change in Steve's expression.]
Oh, is that his name? Is something wrong, Steve?
no subject
[Mentally checks his supplies.] Right. I'm going to have to start thinking about swinging by the school cafeteria too, in a few days. ...Gloves would be nice, or a hat. I've still never found any. Suppose you could always do what I do until then, with the bit of sheet I gave you.
[Steve thinks for a long moment.] ...Probably not. We've... had a lot of disagreements recently. Probably nothing you need to worry about.
Private
Peggy, I've just switched over to private, only you and I will be able to view this, unless someone with the filterhax app feels like listening in. Meant to show you how to do this the other day, but it seemed less urgent when we were together. [Sigh.] If you can't figure out how to turn on private messaging, your tablet assistant should be able to help you out.
I wanted to elaborate about Beckett but I'd rather not do so where he can see. I've known him almost as long as I've been here. He and Rydia and I traveled together for quite some time. [He sighs again.] ...I don't know what to say, exactly. I don't think he's a bad person; likeable, even, although we often don't see eye-to-eye. He's very intelligent, and loyal to the people he cares about. But reckless with his own safety, and sometimes that of others... he got Rydia killed once, and only by sheer luck didn't get himself killed as well. [He shakes his head.] OK, that's... Rydia's reckless too, it wasn't really more his fault than hers, but... they both lied to me to get me out of the way so they could go risk their necks, and Rydia died, so that damaged my trust somewhat. ...On a couple of occasions he's been moved to extreme violence when angry. I had to literally stop him from killing Jack once, and recently he beat Dr. House... I don't actually know how badly, but I assume pretty severely, after locking Quark in a bathroom so he couldn't interfere. I'm... concerned, now, about whether I should treat him like he's dangerous. ...Just... try not to anger him, and don't let him lead you into any harebrained schemes? ...And maybe try not to bleed around him, he's a vampire, he doesn't need blood anymore but part of his brain still thinks he does. ......And maybe don't abruptly shove some fire in his face, either.

Should we meet at the school? Or at one of the houses nearby, maybe? [Pulling up the map on her tablet, Peggy gives it a moment before closing it.] Like one of these houses west of the school?
[When she sees the private message, she fiddles with her tablet to try and reply in the same way. After a little while, with help from the assistant, she manages to send a private reply.]
Thank you for telling me all this. And, you most definitely owe me a tablet usage lesson! [She winks, smiling.] I'm sure I'll find a ways or three to thank you for it...
I'll keep my eyes open around Beckett - don't worry about any schemes, though. I can get into these ones all by myself, but I do prefer when they involve you. I just wanted to make the most about the possibility of talking with someone who's also been here a while. Getting another perspective about this place.
Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. [She will not say it because she knows it will just make him worry more and for very little reason, but she's kinda happy with the fretting. It's been a long time since someone has fussed over her well-being for another reason than Peggy being a woman. Steve worries because he loves her. She can accept that.]

Since we don't know yet how long it's going to take me to get up in that neighborhood, a comfortable house near the school might be a good place for you to wait. Houses 52 and 53 are good ones for you to know, they look pretty destroyed from the outside, but 52 has a big bed with a comforter and a functional bathroom, the shower's even got about ten minutes worth of hot water every day. Don't ask me how that works, we're just grateful it does. That house has become kind of a clinic, Dr. Clayton Epps has been stashing toiletries and medical supplies there, and there should be some generally useful supplies stashed next door as well.
Private
[Steve is not surprised at all that Peggy is able to figure out the private setting without any further help from him. She's too smart by half.]
I'd be happy to, anytime you like. When we meet up again, or tonight, even. [He ducks his head laughing a little, then glances back up at her with a shit-eating grin.] I dunno Peg, my rates for tech support are pretty steep. Might be able to give you a good deal, though.
[Steve sighs a little.] I'm sure there's nothing to worry about, really, he's hardly warm and fuzzy at the best of times but generally he's civil. Just don't threaten Angel or Rhys and you'll be fine, I expect. I just—I don't know what to think about him anymore, what happened with him and House and Quark the other day is upsetting and unexpected, don't know if I should expect more of that from him or what I should do about it. One more thing to worry about—
[His eyes widen suddenly.]
...Sonofabitch, Jack! [Steve puts a hand to his head, dismayed.] You say this happened to everyone? If that's true then Jack's loose. Goddammit. [He thinks rapidly.] I'll have to touch bases with Steph and Shiro and the others, see what they want to do. [He frowns, thinking some more.] ...Dammit. I'm starting to wish this whole conversation was private. [He rubs at his face.] Peggy, this is going to sound really paranoid, but Jack strongly dislikes me in particular, which is fine, I put a target on my own back on purpose, but now that means you could be a target too. Keep an eye out and be careful, OK? ...I mean, if Steph can take him you certainly can, but he could always get the drop on you. Just... watch your six. Please. ...Do you know what he looks like?

[God, but this tablet stuff is confusing. She really could use his help; she gathered that this is private, but she's pretty sure the assistant did it all for her. No idea how she actually got to make it work.] Steep, you say? I'll have to make sure my offers are valuable, then. [If she wasn't in the middle of Alaska, cold to her very bones and wearing her uniform, she'd probably look more seductive. But hopefully, her innuendos will still work on Steve.]
I don't know neither Angel nor Rhys, although you are the second person to mention him...but, I doubt I'll have reason to threaten them.
[Steve goes into nearly a panic next, talking about some Jack fellow and so more people Peggy hasn't met yet. There are a lot of people around Norfinbury that Peggy doesn't know. She tries to tell herself it's only because she;'s only been there for a few days. She'll get there.]
I don't know what he looks like, no, so I'll take a description. But, Steve - I can take care of myself. Don't worry, okay? You've given me a weapon, after all, and you know me. I can punch anyone. [She smiles, trying to look as reassuring as she can make it.]
Now get your butt over here, and we can take a hot shower together. [Hopefully, enough incentive for him to book it to her.]
private
Steve rubs at his face, trying to get his brain in order. He's so Goddamn tired.]
I'm sorry, I'm doing this completely backwards aren't I? I meant to tell you all of this... I dunno, two days ago, probably. ...Jack's our resident murderer and kidnapper. He strangled a kid to death, 'bout a week and a half ago. ...She's been revived. And. Seems to think it's all great fun and Jack is the best ever—anyway, he was threatening to kill more people, I got a posse together and we tracked him down. That's where I was when you arrived, a bunch of us were trying to figure out what to do with him. I left him in Steph and Shiro's custody—you met Shiro, I think, he stole my tablet, briefly?
[Steve frowns, thinking.]
...I gotta warn people he's loose. And—all the other new people, they probably don't know what he looks like either, or anything about him. [He tries to think if Jack's shown his face on the network, recently, then shakes his head, sitting and digging through his packs for his sketchbook and pencil. He props up his tablet so he can keep talking to Peggy, and starts drawing swiftly. He'll have to get moving in a bit, soon as it's light enough in the tunnels to see where the hell he's going, but he can spend a few minutes on this. He has to. It's kinda important.]
Honestly, Peg, if by some incredibly slim chance you do happen to run into him, it would be really great if you could take him in. It's not good he's loose, and everyone's so scattered— [Who even knows where Quark is, and he's alone, probably—and Frisk—shit. Steve's lips press together, and he has to take a momentary pause from drawing so he doesn't break the pencil tip.
Steve's pretty distracted worrying about Jack, but he still smiles a little and glances up at Peggy at the mention of showering together.]
Gotta be honest, that sounds... real nice, Peg. ...I'll hurry. Fast as I can, promise. Wings on my feet.
