[This post appears on the network with no preamble and no context. Well, the context isn't terribly hard to figure out, especially for anyone who's already dealt with Nathan since his arrival two mornings past. Seems like this guy just really likes to find reasons to listen to himself talk.]
What would you consider better to use as a lubricant:
A: Soap
or
B: Gel
I'm leaning toward the gel on account of its soothing aloe vera ingredients. But they do say that cleanliness and close to godliness, so one can't rule out the soap. Thoughts? Opinions? I'm asking for a friend.
[A hesitation, and then he decides to ask another question.]
While we're at it, any MacGyver enthusiasts out there with suggestions for the best way to turn baby clothes into something actually useful to keep warm with? I was thinking some sort of cap, but this really isn't cutting it.

[And, hey, someone else just suggested petroleum jelly! What a coincidence!]
Yeah, I'll take some of that. Don't have much shit to trade with yet, though. What should I keep an eye out for?
[Say what you will about Nathan, but he only steals from unsuspecting vending machines and unoccupied buildings. You know, places where he can get away with it. He's not going to expect a free ride. Nothing's ever free. That's what he learned when he stole that pick 'n mix and ended up in that community center hellhole to begin with. You live, you learn. Sometimes.]

[ he can't take supplies from anyone else, especially since Nathan is so new, he just wants to help more than anything. he needs the petroleum jelly, too, but he can go without, or ration what he has between them. team work! ]
Well, unless you find something for like... musical instruments? I have a friend who is looking for guitar strings. Not that we'll find them here, but.

[Nathan can't help but bark a laugh.]
Don't get me wrong or nothing, I appreciate a good jam session as much as the next guy, but I've been getting shit about how I don't have my priorities in check when someone poor bastard's looking to fix up his instrument!
[Hey, he's trying to take care of his instrument, too. It's just not one that's meant for music.]
How's that for hypocrisy, am I right? Well none of that matters! Tell your friend strum on! He's got the damn right idea!
[Who wants to survive without doing what they love? For some people, it's exploring their musical talent. For others, it involves lots of lube.]

[ he's not surprised. they're all about safety and community here in a lot of ways and someone new may take longer to get ahold of that. ] But if we were all serious business none of us would be sane. Sometimes we have to find little ways to keep our heads on straight, you know? That doesn't mean I'm not looking for important things, too, though. But sometimes we can make a little bit of room for something fun. That's all.

Hey, make time for the little things. I’m all about simple pleasures. [It’s true. He’s a simple guy. That’s what this whole post is about.] All I’m saying is I don’t like being lectured for coping the way I cope by finding my own jollies, sorted?

[ whoa, someone's really crossed this kid, haven't they? not that Ed can really call anyone a kid at this rate, but still. he tries to keep his own hackles down, because Nathan is still new, and Ed remembers how crazy things were for him, too. ]
But yeah, better to keep it simple in a place like this, that's for sure. The whole snow and monsters deal is pretty complicated as it is!
