[network] @HGWELLS; Day 005 evening; open
[So she's found another house and she's started making note of a peculiar event she's noticed in a couple of the buildings she's been in. And she wants to know if anyone else has bothered to look. Or at the very least people can put their heads together and try to deduce what it could mean. Maybe.]
So I have to say, in the buildings I've found, I have begun to make note of the state of their breaker panels. All of the electrical wiring and so forth within the boxes have been expertly removed. For what reason? And by whom? It seems rather curious why someone would remove electricity from this place in such a way.
Has anyone else found anything similar to this? I had hopes of attempting to repair whatever state the system was in, but it is completely non-existent.
[She has hopes of finding parts somewhere along the way that she can start fusing something together, but that may be a while down the line. But Helena is nothing if not persistent.]

@TW; text
but as far as things being deliberately removed goes, have you noticed there are no signs here?
no street signs or markers, nothing
I was checking that out a couple of days ago and like
there are holes. Where signs used to be.
there used to be signposts here and someone actively took time out of their lives to remove them. It's messed up

the thing that brought us here wants us kept weak and disoriented and helpless
Then it can pick us off at its leisure
that or everybody was in the middle of major renovations when they died or went nuts, who knows

@Spoiler; video
[ She holds it up in explanation: a flathead, at a slight angle. ]

That is quite some metal for the screwdriver to get bent. What were you attempting to accomplish that the screwdriver bent like that?
no subject
I was trying to see how thick the metal was, and how hard.
no subject
Clearly the metal is either very thick, very hard, or a combination of both. Though why an entirely metal house? That would seem more than a little dangerous for when thunderstorms came through.
[She is, of course, assuming there was a time when the place wasn't buried in snow. She'd found a playground after all. That suggested there was a changing of seasons here at one point in time.]

I can't think of anything. It all felt... fake. Like a doll's house. Or a rat cage, if you're worried about the dolls chewing through the bars.
no subject
I wasn't worried the dolls would chew through the bars. Until now. [She's actually joking. Mostly. Coming from a world where inanimate objects could actually do that, and far worse, she's not going to dismiss it.]
This place only becomes more and more mysterious the more that we discover of it.
no subject
Empty fuse boxes, uprooted signposts, destroyed houses, metal houses.
Maybe I'm jumping the shark here, but it sounds like they leveled this place to prepare for us.
no subject
...I have no idea what jumping the shark means, but they obviously did something here. And the fact that there are so few signs of anyone who previously lived here outside of the few odds and ends in the in tact houses and such. We were brought here for a reason, and the scientist in me has a very bad feeling about what that reason is.
no subject
Yeah. I think it's safe to say that whatever's really happening here, it isn't good.

It's a strange inconsistency, coupled with the apparent pains taken to remove electrical wiring.

@bancroft | voice;
By this point, she's reasonably certain, however, that whoever is responsible for her current situation, no one here is likely to have any idea who she is; so perhaps it's time to add her voice to those already using the network.
A post made by @HGWELLS seems as good a place to start as any.]
Very nearly everything about our current situation seems rather curious, does it not?
[Not that she's disagreeing; simply stating a fact.]
I'm afraid I can't speak as to the why, or the whom, but for them to have gone to such trouble, I have my doubts they'll have left us with access to anything which might be used to repair it.
[Unless, of course, it's a product of whatever happened to those who were here in the past, and the entity that's brought them here is actually trying to fix whatever it is that went wrong. She finds that highly doubtful.]
no subject
It is entirely curious, yes. It is a mystery that I am bound and determined to solve.
[Because solving mysteries is what she did. And it gave her something to focus on. Something other than the cold and the isolation she felt.]
Most likely not. Alas, I am keeping my eyes open for anything that can be converted into something useful. Electricity may be beyond fathomable at this current state, but it will not stop me from trying. What I wouldn't give for a bloody gaslight right now.
[And, well, it clearly dated her for mention a gaslight. But give the past few days, Helena isn't quite watching what she's saying.]
text @LELRIC
[Why would anyone remove the electrics? Unless it was deliberately to make things harder for whoever sheltered there next.]
Can you tell how they were removed?
no subject
And no, I cannot. At least not beyond the fact they gave it the appearance that it wasn't even there before. It is simply empty.
no subject
Maybe they had different forms of power? Maybe they didn't use electric any more?
