This is Captain Rogers. Full disclosure; I have turned on my beacon. I recognize that it is now somewhat hazardous to be near me, so... take that under advisement. I promise not to be insulted if you'd rather steer clear. To that end, I'll try to report my movements fairly regularly. Currently, I've just left the school cafeteria and am headed towards the houses due south of the school.

I dunno, what if I get into trouble? If people know how to find me they can come help. Or vice versa, if they know I'm nearby they know they can ask me for help.

I haven't made any enemies here, I don't think, and hopefully won't in future, so why shouldn't I make myself easy to find?

Well, considering I've just intentionally turned on what @admin insists is a real-time monitoring device, I guess I just assume I'm being watched. And it seems like everybody gets test and injections whenever @admin decides, beacon or no. Not sure what I'm supposed to do about that. Ditch the tablet? Assuming that would even work? Not sure I'm ready to try just yet, having access to the network has saved my ass several times already.

It's a noble thought, but I think I should say I'm not sure how potent a lure the beacon is. I traveled with someone who had the beacon for weeks, and only encountered one monster while it was just the two of us, the day they appeared aside.

I've got no way of knowing one way or the other. That survey I saw is hardly statistical sound, and there's no frequency data from before beacons were turned on. Still, Dr. Epps and several others seem pretty convinced. I just figured, if there's a chance being around me puts others in danger, people have a right to know.

Oh, I don't doubt it's a lure at all - I've seen it chase one with a beacon while overlooking people who were louder and closer. But I wouldn't expect to encounter them every day unless you're with a very large group. One or two other people seems to be somewhat safe...

[He pauses.]

...Be careful, though. They will choose to follow you when they appear, unless there's someone else with theirs on. I...I don't know how they behave when there's more than one beacon to follow.

[But now he feels obligated to dispense dealing-with-anomalies advice.] I don't know if you've heard this yet, but they can be led away from a door easily enough; they're very single-minded once they have someone to chase. Clayton and I once avoided one by leading it in a circle around the building we were trying to take shelter in.

...You know, it actually occurred to me to try that tactic, so I'm glad to know it's already been tested. ...Generally people are able to outrun them? I was able to outpace the one that came after me yesterday, just barely.

Some are slower or faster than others, but I've never heard of anyone dying from being outrun. [His voice becomes noticeably quieter. He doesn't like talking about the people that have died here, to nobody's surprise.] It's always because they're trapped or they slip, or they're protecting someone else.
