Hey, Trinity! Wibblelips! Look what I found. It flies, it screams, it's alive. It also happens to be the reason I'm stuck in a shed for the night. Now, I got a screwdriver.

[The screwdriver is held up into view in a pink-gloved hand.]

And I got a hammer.

[The screwdriver is set down and the hammer is picked up to show.]

It's a hammer of justice. It's a hammer of warning. And it's going to be the hammer I take to that freaking thing unless you tell me how to get it to stop screaming in my face. Hiro, you needed some robot parts, right? Might be able to get you some.

Clayton. Honestly. After all the hell he's given me since he arrived, you don't think his first name is fair play? What harm will it do?

[No more shitposting from Clayton; he actually pauses here, gives it some deep consideration. Saying that he actually cares about House's opinion of him would do no good in swaying Miranda's views. She's interested in information--obviously from this, using it to keep people like House under her thumb. That, Clayton can pander to.]

'Cause you spilled the beans too early. I was bluffin' t' get him t' back off. Now he's jus' gonna be bitter and you ain't got no leverage.

[ It's really unfortunate that she's observed Clayton closely enough to make some fairly accurate guesses about his own motivations in return. He's irritatingly concerned with what other people think of him, and the soft human angle tends to get to him better than the cold logical one. ]

-I admit, it was childish. I'm not looking to manipulate him, I just want him to get a taste of his own medicine.

[Sure enough, Miranda plays Clayton like a fiddle. The moment she seems to show regret is the moment he starts to back off. ~~the pun doesn't help but it's a nice touch~~]

...I get ya. It's temptin', ain't it? 'Specially when he's so nasty t' poor lil' Angel. [Clayton huffs a quiet sigh. Now he's a little flustered with himself, too. Goddammit Miranda.] But you gotta know it ain't helpin' nobody, right? Pokin' his buttons jus' makes him nastier. I coulda kept 'em from gettin' too far by jus' teasin' 'em instead.

One of these days he's going to upset the wrong person, though, and it's going to go very badly for him. Better he learns his lesson from people with more even tempers, isn't it?

...Jane, I get what yer sayin', but..."learn his lesson?" He's a grown man, he understands that what he says to folks 's got consequences, an' he's smart enough t' know when t' shut his mouth 'n focus on somethin'. I jus' don't think he cares.

Perhaps not. He is tenured, after all.

I think he's probably brilliant enough to be considered irreplaceable. It's the only way you can have an attitude like that and still be employed, short of blackmail. [ Not that Miranda would know. ] If you tell him I said that, though, I'll call you a liar.

Hah! [Clayton barks, recovers quickly.] Yeeah, he don't need nobody boostin' his ego like that. Won't be able t' fit his fat head through the doors in time fer lockdown...

[Never mind that, from what Clayton's seen, it's basically true. He's not here to defend House's honor or anything. Right? Right.]

...Nah. You don't gotta be too smart t' know how t' say the right things to the right people. Med school's stressful. Ain't nobody got time fer wisecrackin' like Greg does. You ain't on yer best behavior, they're either bootin' you out t' save face with the patients 'r puttin' you somewhere where you ain't gonna make too much noise. They ain't makin' you head a the department, ya get me?
