[log] Monster Mash [semi-open]

Characters: Clayton, Enoch, Dio, House, Miranda, Clem, and Quark
Location P10 - BUILDING 110
Date: Day 041, evening
Summary: Gas Station slumber party! Following a monster attack.
Warnings: Will add as necessary, but general House disclaimer for insensitivity.

[The evening is drawing in around them as Miranda and House make their way toward the gas station. It's a somewhat familiar road to tread, at least, and there's the promise of his meds at the end of it... also people to distract the irritating woman walking with him from his company.

Epps should be good for that. He seems like the sort.

There's a sudden hiss from somewhere behind them, when they're still a good distance from the building. House glances back, then does a double-take when he sees a four-legged shadow monster pounding across the snow after them. That... what is that? It doesn't look like a robot. It doesn't look anything but absolutely real.]

Six o'clock!

[The words are snapped out as House turns, gauging the thing's speed. It's moving too fast for him to reach the gas station in time, which means improvising.]

I'm all right now that the beast's on the other side of the door. [And the door is safely locked, of course. He smiles down at Quark's offer and accepts the water bottle - he's fine with water that isn't exactly fresh, health risk or no (perhaps not for the best of reasons), but he can't turn down a kid trying to be helpful in his own way. It's too cute.]

Thank you. [He takes the water bottle and drinks some from it - just enough to wet his throat - and hands it back to Quark.] Don't worry about not contributing, there wasn't anything suited to your strengths this time. Surely we'll come across something we'll need your help for.

[And he actually means it, too. Who knows when they'll encounter something only a child can reach? This place is strange enough, after all.]

[Quark beams at Enoch, as if he's glad to see his offering accepted. Like it really solidifies the fact that they're all friends now. When he takes the bottle back, he screws the lid on tightly and puts it back in his backpack.]

I hope so. I really, really want to help.

[His eyes drift forward as he says so, staring at the empty shelves before them. There's a seriousness in his voice. He knows that there are advantages to being small, but right now, he can't help feeling restless at the idea that he's more of a liability than someone who has anything to offer.]

I hope I can help soon. As soon as possible.

Quark, I appreciate it, I really do. [He puts a hand on the boy's shoulder.]

But don't feel obligated to. We do what we can to help each other here, and nothing more.

[He hasn't quite grasped that Quark fears being abandoned. That a child should feel obligated to help strikes him first and foremost as the typical eagerness to become an adult as soon as possible.]
