[log] The Great Anomaly Round-up [closed]

Characters: OTA (regular characters plus anomalies)
Location: Power Plant
Date: Day 440
Summary: Here! In brief: It's time to capture some anomalies in the Norfinbury power plant!
Warnings: Please add to subject lines.

[The Norfinbury power plant is a large building that is one of the few with reliable electricity. Going inside reveals a warm, metallic interior. Immediately upon entering is a small reception area--there's a door labeled EMPLOYEES ONLY, but you can also go into a door to the right for a small museum-like area intended for young children that explains the basics of thermal energy. Visit the gift shop and get a fun t-shirt!

Entering the employees only area, it gets warmer, though it's far from unpleasant.

Here is where it will happen. There are multiple offices before the hallway opens up into a large, open area with countless shining machines and a sealed off central area. The air in the central area is hotter than the rest of the facility, almost uncomfortable. There's a door requiring a key card to enter the central area, and the door displays a warning: INTENSE HEAT. DO NOT ENTER WITHOUT PROTECTION.

A keycard left by those who have come before sits atop one of the shining machines, ready to be taken and used.

This is the place where the anomalies will be trapped. Where the groups converging on the power plant will attempt to trap the anomalies. Messages have been put up around town, trying to draw them here. It's now or never.

Perhaps you're an anomaly that's already here. Perhaps you're one of those seeking to capture them. Perhaps you're one of the late and unexpected arrivals. In any case, enjoy the free-for-all. There's technically a plan, but mice and men might have something about things that go awry here.]

[ After much fussing and angsting and wringing of weird clawed bony hands, Angelnomaly shows up to the party late. She's been debating with herself over whether she should show up at all - mostly because Squalo is against the idea, and he's not exactly someone who tends to baby her or doubt what she's capable of. If he thinks it's a bad idea, it's probably a bad idea.

That guilt complex, though. And shouldn't she show up just to prove that she is still herself, and that no one needs to be scared of her?

Assuming people don't have to be scared. Because what if she loses her temper or forgets herself and gets all touchy with someone? That would be awful.

But running away from problems doesn't solve them. And this is definitely A Problem.

Her thoughts go around in circles for a long while before she finally decides to at least check things out. She's definitely too late to warn off her fellow anomalies en masse, but maybe she can keep any atragglers like herself from getting caught? Or she might be able to convince some of the unchanged to stop trying to lock everyone away? She has to do something, right?

She's sure as hell not entering the power plant, though. She can be found hanging out a few metres from the entrance, floating around in anxious, erratic patterns that leave trails of glowing purple liquid in the snow. Get too close to it and she'll warn you off:
]

Don't touch the slag. You'll get sick.

[ That's not a threat! She's being careful!! ]

[Stephen might not have been the best choice, considering he'd had words with Angel regarding this anomaly as well. Time is of the essence, though, and it certainly doesn't occur to Stephen to try to opt himself or John out of this conversation...particularly when he doubts the matter will be resolved with words alone.

He finds himself staring at her in wonder almost as much as fear or pity. There's a sort of morbid fascination for him in seeing all of them.
]

We've been made aware.

I can - I mean, I can see that, but. I'm not here to help you.

[ She looks back and forth between John and Stephen, neck swinging around like a really weird elephant trunk, and drifts backwards. Just a little. Enough that anyone trying to get too close would have to cross the slag trails.

It's not the most effective barrier in the world, but it's something. Plus maintaining the distance between them makes it a lot easier to ignore the nagging urges to punch John in his stupid freaking face.
]

I'm not here to say that you should let everyone go, or anything, but - but do you even know how cruel you're being? This is how we were all changed, you know. We got locked up in a room. For days. With no food and then no light and it was horrible. This is horrible.

[ YOU'RE HORRIBLE. ]

[It's effective enough. It wouldn't hurt Stephen in the sense that he wouldn't feel it, but it could very well kill either of them. He tries not to flinch or take a step back when her head on that long neck swings in his direction.]

Are you aware of how many of us have died since then? Because I can tell you about a few other experiences that are horrible.

I'm aware that people have died, yes, I saw the post. On the network. But - but not all of us are killers! I'm not! You just said yourselves that only some of the people in there have killed, so you're admitting to locking up innocents. And that's effed up.

[ Their reluctance to make their way over the slag is encouraging. Maybe there's less reason to be nervous than she'd anticipated? ]

Frankly, you're kinda being ginormous dicks.

[Stephen glances at John. He may not be close to Angel, but he has a feeling that argument won't go down well. Instead of contradicting him, though, he turns his attention to the little trail of slag the anomaly has turned into a barrier between them, trying to tell if more is still being added...and whether there's a way around it.]

Accidentally, yes! When I was still confused about what had happened to me. Since the thing with Squalo I've been exceptionally careful, ask - ask anyone!

[ She wrings her hands in a particularly Angelly gesture. Why has Stephen gone quiet? Why is he even here? Is it just because they think she's dangerous or are they freaking planning something oh god oh man oh geez!! ]

Have neither of you ever hurt anyone? Accidentally or otherwise? Because if you have, I'd love to know what makes it so different for you.

[ ANOMALY RACISTS. The slag trail, for the record, is slowly expanding. Very slowly. There's a constant trail of it dripping from her eyes, but the flow is pretty sluggish at the moment and it probably isn't much of a reason for concern. Especially if either John or Stephen read the information Angel gave to Sherlock - the slag won't cause them any direct damage if they do touch it, other than making them weak and nauseated for a while. And more vulnerable to other elements, I guess, but THAT'S FINE IT'LL ALL BE FINE ]

We don't hurt other people just by coming near them. Or kill compulsively, like some of the people we've gathered here.

[Look, he's using the word "people"! At least...in front of the anomalies.]

And yes, I said some. But if you won't willingly stay away, we have to protect each other.
