I don't know that there's anything I can do for him in the first place. And yet- I don't know that I could simply walk away from him, either.
[He swallows down the bitter thought that the very person who has led him to embrace living forever, who himself lived better immortal to the point of discarding his original identity, has a twisted version that represents death and decay.]
We- we need to fix this, somehow, or do something.

[ She didn't walk away either, did she? Not that she had much choice at the time. What with the whole cornered-in-a-bathroom thing. And the cuffed ankles. Even now that she's had first-hand experience of Beckett's anomaly, she's pretty sure she'd still try and talk with him some more if he showed up again.
At least this time she'd be putting herself in danger for a father figure that deserves it?? ]
And I hear you on fixing it. I'm - I'm not sure what we can do, though, aside from trying to apprehend Robert Miller? And who knows if he can reverse whatever he's done. I mean, it doesn't look like the administrator can, so...
[ Huhrhgrrh. ]

[Assuming, again, it isn't only madness born of the transformation. Given how specific his own seems to be, and knowing that he wouldn't break like that naturally (he knows what happens when he breaks for good, and it sure isn't anything like that), he's got a good reason to hope.]

Like if Beckett - if his sanity was returned, he'd still remember all the things he thought and believed in his, um, current state. That'd change anyone, right? And mine... doesn't seem very different to me at all. Mentally. It's...
[ Horrific? Really upsetting? Freaky and devastating and -- ]
...a little uncomfortable.

[He cuts himself off, hands clenching tight as, unbidden, he remembers the words written on the walls of the school taunting him, calling to mind everything he'd been made to believe with all his being in that tower, and of that alien mind he had been made to call his own. He would sooner die than have it take him again.
His stomach churns, but is currently empty.]
I would never say they wouldn't be changed. But at least we could make them themselves again. Even if it would hurt, I can't-...in their place, would you prefer to remain hostile against your friends? Would you really, truly want to remain ignorant, if you had been forced into being so?

[ She doesn't know what she's saying, honestly. It's too horrible. She can't imagine a worse fate than what the anomalies are going through, and not being able to help them even a little is shredding her into bits. She's supposed to be the one with all the clever ideas and hopeful words and instead all she has is-- ]
...Iunno.
Sorry.

He takes deep, shaking breaths, trying not to lose himself in awful memories that crowd the edges of his thoughts and make him feel claustrophobic in his own mind. He can't help anyone, not the remaining humans, not the twisted copies...all he can do is talk, and hope, and look for opportunities that never present themselves.]
No, I should apologize, I'm not...
[Another ragged breath.]
...I'm sorry.
no subject
Hey, don't - I sorried first! Don't steal my sorry-thunder!!
[ It's a lot easier to see that you're being ridiculous when someone else is doing the same thing. THANKS, ENOCH. She gives him a fond little wrinkly-nosed smile and a shoulder-bump - the smile fades pretty quickly, but the fondness doesn't. ]
It's not us that should be sorry anyway, is it? Freaking guilt complexes, dude. Who'd have 'em.
no subject
It's not... Miller knows how to get to us, if little else.
[The trap was meant for those who would be concerned for the collective. Only people like them now have doubles mutated and running about Norfinbury.]

[ If she'd have been talking to (almost) anyone else, that would have been a support group for tiny-wanged buttheads or something. But not Enoch, who must be protected from dick jokes. Enoch, who has clearly never even so much as entertained the idea of peens existing. 100% actual virgin Enoch.
Why is Angel like this. ]
That has to be his problem. Bitterness and jealousy. Gross.
no subject
And he thinks to make all of us just as bitter, so he has nothing more to be jealous at. Gross, indeed. [A bit of a smile, finally.] It's a shame he'll have to kill us to deprive us of it all.
