MORNING.
[ guess who hasn't quite figured out her tablet yet? this girl. all she knows is that she's turned an audio entry on and can't figure out how to turn it off. ]

shut up

[ that's it. ]
AFTERNOON.
[ malia has woken up in the math house. shock and horror. as if the walls being covered in equations wasn't bad enough, people have also written weird stuff like "ALPHONSE ELRIC, TADASHI HAMADA, STEPH BROWN, MAMI TOMOE, FREYA CRESCENT, EDWARD ELRIC, DAY SIXTEEN, TRAVELLING WEST." who cares?

oh, and there's also blood on the floor.
]

why can't i smell anything

[ she actually can smell, but it's so dampened that it seems like nothing at all. her hearing and sight have suffered as well, everything somewhat blurry and sounding like it's coming from far away. ]

there's blood on the floor and i can't even smell it

and all the math on the walls is making me dizzy.

[ there have been stranger people on the network than this, but it's the fact that this person seems to be genuinely disturbed by the fact they can't smell blood that piques his interest. it shouldn't, but with a garbled username like that, too, he's suspicious. the admin here like to play tricks, and maybe this is just part of that.

or really it's not. bellamy doesn't know for sure. ]

why would you want to smell blood?

[ so he could say a lot more, but maybe it's better to keep it simple. ] are you okay?

morning
[ House hates mornings. Always has. The fact that this one comes with no bed, icy cold, and completely unfamiliar and dilapidated surroundings does nothing to change his opinion. The coat goes on first before he attends to the tablet, registering with the first user ID that comes to mind and reading through cgriffin's ever so helpful blog guide.

Okay. Kidnapped away to Siberia. That's new and exciting. House pops a Vicodin, forcing himself to remain calm. This could all still be an elaborate prank. A very elaborate prank. One that comes with weeks of back-up, apparently. Not a prank, then. An actual kidnapping complete with a sketchy, evil organization and mass druggings.

In any case, it would seem that he needs somewhere to stay for the night. House can see a building off in the distance. He'll start up his tablet as he goes. ]

Hi, I just arrived, and the welcome wagon's running a little late. [ The sarcasm practically drips from every word. ] How do we actually find out where we are? All these cute little maps. Noooot really helpful when you don't know where you're starting. Also, is the average age-range seriously still 14 to 20? Please tell me you're all babes, at least.

night
[ Finding some mitten and a scarf is a major relief. A meager meal, empty strange house, and half his usual dose of pain meds for the day has him irritated and bored. Might as well spread the joy just before bed. ]

I think I'll keep this place. Also, pretty sure it might be the 'A-frame house.' The guy who used to live here was a total tool. Who keeps pink mittens in men's sizes?

[ hotstud_xxx. Really. Miranda is amused despite herself, though she's fighting flashbacks to the one time she was stupid enough to join a dating website.

The voice on the other end of the line is female, Australian, and droll. It comes with the accompanying sounds of rummaging through junk. ]

It does seem that our captors are running a daycare rather than an experiment some days. And unfortunately for you, there's quite the gender imbalance.

The best advice I've found so far is to walk until you either run into a wall to get a sense of direction or find a unique landmark - something like one of the stores, the petrol station, the school. Anything that's not a house. I'm afraid our datapads don't come equipped with a GPS.

I'm no infant, I'm 24.

[Dorian sounds amused.]

I discovered where I was by asking other people. Landmarks help. Snow is not a landmark.

Um, sorry, was I disturbing you? You could just turned it off, you know?

[Sadly, and misguidedly, the first thing that goes through Al's mind is sympathy for this poor fool who obviously has messed up his username choice. Al feels that pain, he's had to live with LELRIC since he got here, and even that isn't as bad as hotstud...

But he'll focus on the slightly more pressing part of the message - like new people arriving again - and try to respond helpfully. It's just a shame his voice sounds even younger than House's dreaded 14-20 age range.]

I might be able to help you with finding where you are. I've been assisting in drawing out the maps of this place, so if you describe the house you're in or the view from the window, it might help.

[Honestly, he's hoping for carvings of names, because that always helps.]

no actual welcome wagon, sorry. just us. unless you count the message from the admin as a 'welcome' of sorts. as for the maps, i guess the best thing is to try look around for landmarks? even something inside the building might help one of us figure it. i know some have been leaving notes as to who stopped by in the buildings for which night since they arrived.

as for the 'babes', no comment. not sure i'd be the one to really ask.

[Hiro's a teenager, but he hasn't been thinking on 'babes' or dating at all, more interested in robots, gambling and then his studies. Well, still into the robots, but that's less obvious around here with the lack of available tech.]
rubikscomplex: (childish | cool story)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2015-09-04 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[ lawbringer? Apparently the welcome wagon includes Austrailian cops or vigilantes. ]

Ugh. Boys are so gross! I hear they have cooties. [ What was that about a daycare?

He does make note of her advice in spite of that, becoming only slightly more serious. ]
Anyone walk from one end of the place to the other? I like a stroll as much as anyone but I brought the wrong shoes for backpacking in the arctic circle.
rubikscomplex: (childish | oh nice)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2015-09-04 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm... still pretty much an infant, kiddo. [This guy is talking like he's straight out of a Renaissance Faire. Seriously?]

And snow isn't... oh, God. All this time and I thought... Thank you. Thank you, Sir Galahad. I don't think I would have figured that out on my own. [He knows the guy was probably trying to be funny, but House isn't really in the mood.] Don't use snow as a landmark in the wintry wonderland. And here I was going to start describing all this white stuff. I mean the Inuit have over a 100 words for snow, but that's no use. English is so limiting.
rubikscomplex: (consideration | interesting)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2015-09-04 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Okay. So, kidnapping males aged 12 to 46. That's certainly a range for this little experiment.]

I spy with my little eye something beginning with the letter 's.' A lot of that something, in fact. The letters 'd' or 'r' work, too. Already left the house I woke up in. Some people just don't know anything about proper maintenance. Holes and mold everywhere. How mold can even survive when all the water's frozen is anyone's guess, but hey. Maybe the afternoon sun's getting in a bit too much these days.

[As this kid is trying to be useful, he'll relent for a moment.]

There were stairs up to another floor and I'm guessing an attic. Didn't want to chance it with the way the rest of the house looked. [And the way his leg had screamed at the prospect.] Heading out toward another building. Doesn't look like a house, but hard to tell at this distance.
rubikscomplex: (getting somewhere | rly now)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2015-09-04 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Blind? [Because why else would someone not be qualified to judge babes? Granted, the person typing makes that unlikely, but why not mess with them if they're going to be a prude?] Shame, really. You're not missing out on much. Except colors, funny cat videos... cleavage. Guess you can still feel one of those. You should try it sometime. Trust me. Chicks dig blind guys feeling them up. Just tell them you're Daredevil or something.

[He gets marginally more serious for a moment.] Landmarks, though. Hmm... well, there's snow to the right of me, snow to the left of me, snow in front of me, crunchy and thick. The house I just left was full of holes and mold. There's some sort of debris I can see sticking up around where I'm walking through. Might be more houses that were.

[personal profile] armoured 2015-09-04 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[He'll choose to ignore the smart alec reply for now, he can sort of understand it. Even if he wasn't given to outbursts when he was confused or scared, Ed could be, and so he assumed that this stranger's sarcasm was to try and mask how afraid he must be at waking up here.]

Hmm... I'm afraid that doesn't help too much, a lot of the houses here aren't in great repair. Can you see how big the other building looks, like how big it is? Or maybe an ice wall?

[That's too much to hope for, isn't it? But maybe if House can identify a store or the school or funeral home, then they'll be getting somewhere.]
rubikscomplex: (not impressed | go away)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2015-09-04 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[The sarcasm is here to stay, afraid, happy, or annoyed. House is feeling particularly disgruntled at the moment, but that's nothing terribly out of the ordinary given the weather.]

Did I stutter at 'hard to tell at this distance,' Sherlock?

[There's a drawn out silence apart from the irregular crunch of snow as House limps along and looks around.]

There's some debris around. Just little chips of wood in the snow. [Not large enough or numerous enough to be useful.] Looks like there might be some kind of mound of snow to the right. But it also looks like that to the left. So, how about you entertain me until I get closer to our mystery building. Tell me something interesting.

[Because this trudging thing? It's incredibly boring.]

[personal profile] whiteknightnecromancer 2015-09-04 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You are quite welcome. You're also not stating any landmarks so you must not be close to freezing to death which is something I've been assured our captors will allow to happen. Why any place needs this much snow, I have no idea.

[Dorian sounds a little more petulant.]

I haven't been warm since I arrived with the last group.

Freezing to death is for tourists. I live in New Jersey. This is practically spring weather. [No it's not. The only thing keeping him relatively warm right now is the walking, and he's pretty sure his hand is going to be frozen to his cane in the next half hour.]

And landmarks are in pretty short supply. There's a building up ahead, but I'm too far away to make out what it is. Probably not a house. But who knows? I heard there are convenience stores around here. How big are those?

times when I didn't realize that we were going to be here for weeks and would all end up looking like mismatching frostbitten hobos anyway

it's Tim but ok
this winter all the hip and happening snowhell residents are all about the accessories. jazz up your regulation Norfinbury-brand coat with a pocket handkerchief or corsage
you'll soon be listed amongst the fashion-forward
personally I'm favoring an innovative flannel shirt/rainbow scarf combo
can't tell you where to get something like that though. trade secret
rubikscomplex: (childish | but mom)

cmon, timmy
cut a fellow frostbitten hobo a break!
i mean i can rock anything with this bod, but the pink clashes so much with my everything
i took a cosmo quiz and bright colors just aren't my thing
who am i to argue with the fashionista gurus?

oh right ofc
god forbid your status as resident ~hot stud~ gets compromised, my bad
tbh though you're out of luck since there's no boutique around here
that we've found anyway
maybe there's one hiding under a snowdrift somewhere but until then you've got to sift through the trash with your hobo brethren
tragic.

hey dude, don't hate
i'm sure you're hot, too
while also cool and stylish in your rainbow scarf

definitely tragic
you guys have been here for weeks, though. what have you been doing?
survival, orienteering, and cartography are so overrated
