[log] Two Doctors and an Abomination Walk into a Shed [closed]
Characters: Ecks, House, and Wilson
Location: building 29
Date: evening 365
Summary: Three people sit in a small, dark room.
Warnings: Coughing up blood; existential dread
[Building 29: A small shed outside the school, going inside reveals sports equipment is being stored in here. There are hurdles, various sports balls, giant mats, and the like. There's nothing that could be used as a weapon, though, unless you're going to try to hurl a basketball at someone's head. This is the only place on the campus it's possible to stay in overnight--if you try to stay anywhere else, you'll be made to leave at 7PM.
The following is written on the wall in blue ink: "This is Building 46 on the composite map. Contact @CaptSteveRogers for details." Underneath is a fairly accurate map showing the shed in relation to the school. The school is labeled "School. Food available in cafeteria; DO NOT STAY HERE OVERNIGHT." The shed is labeled "Shed". Behind the shed is a small army of snowmen armed with sports equipment. There's a drawing spraypainted on the inside of the shed. It has been labeled "GEROMY". The skin color has been left blank. "ALPHONSE ELRIC, DAY TWO HUNDRED AND SIX, FOR ANY ASSISTANCE PLEASE CONTACT @LELRIC." is written on the wall.]

when the power goes out
The shed is a familiar enough place, and it didn't take Ecks long to pick a corner and settle into it once they'd arrived. She's been playing around with her tablet despite its recent limitations, eking what entertainment she can out of it. When its screen goes dark she tries tapping at it at first, harder when it doesn't respond. Ecks lets out a frustrated sound as she looks up and tries to catch the eye of one of the men in the room before turning the tablet around to show him.]
It is broken.
[The language in which she speaks is guttural and half spoken through her teeth, as though it was intended to be spoken by someone with tusks.]
no subject
Oh, come on. Eve, turn the goddamn tablets back on.
[He chucks his ball in the general direction of the vents, and it ricochets with a loud bang. Unfortunately for Ecks, it heads off in her general direction.]
no subject
The language Ecks speaks sounds inherently angry, but maybe there's some deliberate inflection there, too.]
Who has attacked me?
no subject
After a moment considering whether to let an enraged, violence-prone golem thrash around in the dark, he sounds and shuffles in the direction of her voice.]
Calm down.
no subject
[Ecks goes still in the dark, listening for further motion. She is certain that only Doctor House and Doctor Wilson were in this shed with her before the lights went out...at least, she's mostly certain. She slowly shifts her foot, trying to find her pack in the dark without making too much noise so she will know where her shovel is.]
no subject
Ecks.
[Maybe she'll recognize her name.]
no subject
...Doctor House.
no subject
[He holds up one of his hands, reaching out for her.]
no subject
This isn't Marco Polo.
[She isn't expecting his touch, and she stiffens and draws sharply away.]
Doctor House?
[Logically, it must have been him. Cautiously, she reaches in the direction from which she's been hearing him.]

no subject
Sit.
no subject
Broken.
no subject
Broken.
[Is that what he wants? The word? She holds onto the tablet; her next reply is in her own language.]
I do not have a word for this object.
think we can ftb unless you've got somewhere more definite to take this!
[Which she won't understand. Ugh! House blows out an irritated sigh before coughing, the taste of the blood has gotten stronger.]
Sit.
[He repeats that and just tries to relax. It's going to be a long night.]
She's going to start learning words and phrases but tbh we should handwave
[Hopefully he enjoys being mimicked, and Ecks pestering him for words. Sooner or later she'll start putting actual sentences together, if only simple ones.]
no subject
He's not too far off from where Ecks is, and he overhears her say something unrecognizable. Looking over at her, he tries to engage: ]
What did you say?
no subject
It is broken. My intelligent stone is broken.
no subject
I'm sorry, I can't understand you. I don't know what's happening.
[ And apparently she can't understand him. This hasn't ever happened before that he knows of. ]
no subject
[Even 'English' doesn't come through, mangled by her native language's word formation for foreign language names. She hasn't quite figured out that she's no longer speaking the language that had been imposed on her by the nanomachines.]
no subject
[ Which probably means something is going wrong, because he's never had issues understanding Ecks before. ]
no subject
You - are - speaking - in - a - strange - tongue.
no subject
[ He imitates her tone, hoping that somehow, if he speaks slowly and clearly, she'll grasp something from his words. ]
I don't know what's going on here. Ecks.
[ It's stupid, and a long shot, but names are easily understood, aren't they? It's not going to really help them communicate, though. He doesn't have a workaround for that, unfortunately. ]
no subject
Doctor Wilson.
