[So here goes. He can't say he's looking forward to this but then again people weren't looking forward to having parts of their soul ripped away from them either, were they.
Flynn's voice is quiet, maybe a bit rough around the edges and missing its usual, energetic touch, but firm.]
I, uh. Hi.
[Well, that's off to a great start already. He sighs.]
I once told one of my professors that all I wanted to do is learn. That it is what I'm good at, where I feel most like myself. I always thought learning is the greatest thing in the universe and I never would have thought that I could ever use it to...
[He stops for a moment, frowning.]
... I like to think that I would never have done any of this if things were... different and if this town wasn't, well. If it wasn't what it is. But I also realize that some part of me - or about me - probably prompted and spurred me on. I know I hurt a lot of people and regardless of how much of it I could have prevented or not, I'm very, very sorry. About what happened and-- about what might be yet to come of it.
I'm sorry. Stay warm, everybody.

It's okay. I'll keep us both out of trouble here.
I'm doing okay. Keeping on the move because I've got a lot of things to take care of, but staying busy is good.
Doing my best to be good to myself.
no subject
[A little worrisome maybe, especially if it's just a doing your best, but then again isn't that what they're all doing these days?]
Long as you're safe.
no subject
[Everything's good. At least, he's trying to make it that way.]
...okay, it's kind of harder than I thought to catch up, without, you know, giving you the Big Stuff, but. When all this is over, and back to normal, I'll have to make another grocery store run and we can catch up over junk food. Come up with some new stuff, maybe.
no subject
I'd like that. Sorry we can't get into the Big Stuff.
[It doesn't feel like he can still take parts from people but the memory is still fresh and raw and he doesn't want to risk it.]
Junk food sounds great.

I think talking about trivial shit for a bit would be nice, anyway. Not thinking about all this crazy shit, just...little things that we don't have time to think about here usually.
And maybe some Chinese Checkers or something. You know. Just pretend to be normal for a while. Probably do us good.
no subject
[He smiles faintly.]
Wow, I haven't played Chinese Checkers since I was a kid. Do you have a game?
no subject
[There isn't a lot to do in prison besides bad TV and board games, unfortunately.]
I'd probably have to carve a board, maybe find some nail polish or paint or something, and get some rocks, but I could make a board if I really wanted to. Maybe something to keep in the clinic, if I got serious about setting it up again.
It beats "I Spy", at least? Because face it, most of the time the answer is "snow".
no subject
The clinic with the hot water? I should head over there at some point. People keep recommending it.
[Well. And tell him about horribly tragic accidents that happened there.]
no subject
[He almost mentions it would be sheer hell trying to play the game being partially blind, but he stops himself. Nope, not giving away information. Still a moratorium on that.
But Rhys can't help but smile a little knowing people are using what he feels like is his.]
One of the few places in the town where the hot water never runs out. You can't fill a bath, but the shower runs as long as you want so yeah, it's definitely worth it. Especially if you can bring some soap or shampoo.
I'd like to try and "stock" some there, but it's hard to come by and things disappear if you don't leave them in a cabinet, so it's kinda tough.
no subject
[Not just for the body – definitely for the body though – but also for the soul. Besides, there's something really comforting about the thought of sitting in the shower and feeling sorry for himself for a while before picking himself up.]
That's a shame. Would be nice to just have a fully-stocked sanctuary, you know?
no subject
I think energy might be better put toward getting out of here, but just have to tackle things as they come.
no subject
[When he realizes he's drifting off into theorizing again he stops himself, clearing his throat.]
Sorry. Force of habit.

I think the town thinks the boxes are part of the buildings, or something, so they're immune to the vanishing. I don't know, though. I just know that it does work. And it's frustrating as hell when everything else undoes itself, but...it's trial by error, I guess. Not much else you can do.
no subject
Maybe I can experiment some with that. That seems like a harmless enough way to pass the time.
no subject
Leave a stack of things, and see if it lasts or if it gets unstacked. That sort of thing. I know someone down in the farther parts of this part of town actually managed to build a shed or something that stays, but we still haven't figured that out. So maybe start with small boxes, small sheds. I need to go over that info again.
[It's not super high on his list, but it's there.]
no subject
[No promises though. If there are angry rants incoming on the network sometime in the future you'll probably know what happened.]
Well, I've never been a carpenter but as they say, there's a first time for everything. In this case everything probably means a ridiculous amount of splinters.

[Improvising can be a dangerous sport.]
It's something, though. Just, whatever keeps you busy, you know? Keeps your mind occupied and out of trouble.
Which I think we definitely need. Keeping out of trouble.
no subject
[Keeping out of trouble, keeping others out of trouble, that sounds... nice.]
I'll do my best to do that. And, uh... thanks.
