Wonder how many requests I could put in before the admin just turned off my tablet... [She muses.] I doubt it'd take me seriously as a doctor.

Well, we can't have that.

[Flynn shakes some more snacks and slightly more nutritious provisions from his back, opening a bag of peanuts and spilling them into his open hand.]

How would I know where to bring the chocolate?

[clowngirl]

Maybe I could just travel with you for a bit? [She asks in a slightly smaller voice, eyes bordering on puppy-dog. Leaving the Joker was one thing, being alone was another. She was going to need a friend.]

[cahooted]

Huh? [The question catches him by surprise and Flynn glances up momentarily.] Oh! Oh yeah, sure. Sure, why not?

[He flashes her a friendly smile before tossing the peanuts into his mouth.]

Do you wanna, uh. [He wrings his hands for a moment, unsure if or how to approach the subject.] Do you wanna talk about it? Tell me what happened?

[clowngirl]

[She smiles a little, but then it quickly vanishes.] He got mad at me. Usually when he gets mad at me, I know it's my fault. But this time... I don't think it was my fault. Or at least, I don't think I deserve that kinda treatment. Not anymore.

[cahooted]

[Something in Flynn's gut twists painfully at her words and he reaches out impulsively to place his hands on top of hers.]

You really don't. [He looks at her, his face turning serious as well.] It's not your fault.

[clowngirl]

[She tries to take in his words the best she can. It's nice to hear them come from somewhere outside her head.]

I guess I just thought it'd all be diff'rent here.

[cahooted]

Yeah. [Flynn squeezes her hand for a moment there. God, this city is bad enough as it is, he can't imagine having to deal with something like... that on top of it.]

It's okay now, we're gonna figure something out. Me and John, we're gonna keep you safe.

[clowngirl]

[She squeezes back.]

I think I’ll be good so long as he doesn’t get the jump on me. I just don’t wanna be alone.

Well, you're not.

[He offers her another smile.] So I guess we already managed the first step! That's some amazingly quick progress right there.

[clowngirl]

[That brightens her up.]

So what's the next step?

[cahooted]

The next step is... figuring out our next steps. [He grins at her like he's feeling really clever about himself but he actually means it.]

We're gonna find a way to keep you out harm's way. No empty talk. We're going to be... all strategic about it and everything.

[clowngirl]

[That's not very helpful, but his enthusiasm is contagious.] Strategy! Right!

Do you, uh... have a lotta experience avoidin' danger in the middle of more danger? [There's probably not a nice way to ask, but. A librarian? The Joker would make mincemeat out of him. She's not even sure how he's survived Norfinbury this far.] Turnin' books in on time or I dunno, not gettin' hit by a fallin' bookshelf aren't really transferable skills in this situation.

[cahooted]

As a matter of fact? I have.

[The Joker would most likely still make mincemeat out of him but that's a whole other story. This is more about being reassuring... at least a little bit.] I'm a very special Librarian. I go and find old lost books so I have to go to a lot of dangerous places. And I meet a lot of unpleasant people along the way.

[clowngirl]

Oh. Good! [She... still sounds a little unsure.] Can't you just use the internet for that, though?

[cahooted]

What? [He blinks.] Oh! No, no I mean really old books and really dangerous places. Tombs and temples and... and ancient ruins.

And they're really valuable so sometimes people try to kill me for them.

[clowngirl]

That actually sounds really cool! [She means it this time!] Do ya get to carry a whip and make quippy remarks as you push guys into a volcano to save... I dunno, some scroll?

[cahooted]

No, I'd probably strangle myself, really... And I don't really push guys into a volcano, that would be horrible. [She might appreciate the giant capstone that he once caused crashing down on an evil cult leader but he really doesn't feel all that comfortable mentioning it.]

But I like to think I'm not that bad in a fight. And I do save some scrolls from time to time.

Whips are hard despite their sexiness. [She nods. How does Catwoman do it? Also, clearly he meant that pushing people into volcanoes would be horrible...ly funny. The lines just write themselves!]

Sounds like you might have some librarian moves though of the not-book-throwin' kind. You're gonna hafta show me what ya got someday.

[cahooted]

I... guess. [That's not exactly what he-- ah, well.

He chuckles, rubbing the back of his head.] Maybe someday I will.

[clowngirl]

Let's aim for a non-life-or-death scenario though. You're a mensch, I'd be sad to see you horrifically murdered.

I mean, who'd organize and distribute all of Norfinbury's soft-core porn? [Sorry that's what your job boils down to here, Flynn.]

[cahooted]

[Flynn groans, dropping his face into his hands.]

Et tu, Harley? [Will you guys ever give him a break about that.]

[clowngirl]

Aw, hey! Nights are cold around here.

Don't tell me you ain't read any of 'em yet.

[cahooted]

[His face reddens at that.]

I've read everything we currently have at the library.

[clowngirl]

[She smiles.] See? Helps chase away the lonelies. Folks need that.
