[Dorian has his tablet set up on a pew to show him sitting where he's leaning against the altar in the chapel. He smiles in a friendly way and gives the tablet a little wave. His appearance shows signs of grooming and he's grown a small beard since he arrived.]

Manaveris! How is everyone? I am more alive than previously anticipated.

I'm afraid I don't know this building or the surroundings but I'm sure that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

But enough about me. How are the rest of you? Is there anyone nearby? This place is rather lonely.

I dunno. Maybe I'm startin' to get too old to rebel against my folks. It'd be nice if they were just proud of me for once, y'know? It'd at least make holiday visits smoother.

'Course, I don't think anything really counts in this place anyway. Which is one'a its only pluses if ya ask me.

I... can understand that. I've rather given up on the idea. Or rather, I know what it would take and I like being able to live with myself.

It might depend on what you mean by counting. I think the things I say and do with the other people here count for something. I'm not in the Fade with only an amorphous audience of Spirits. The interactions I have must have some sort of impact on those around me. If I say nasty things to them, then I've done something nasty to a person.

[She nods.]

Well, sure, and if that person isn't nasty you're gonna feel bad. But if they're a big ball of nasty themselves then at least you're not gonna extend your criminal record if you say somethin' to 'em or push them off a snowdrift.

Oh please. That's even easier to deal with back home. Here people hold grudges and talk to one another. Back home all I need to do is bribe the local magistrate or call in a favor from a friend.

[clowngirl]

[Amused:] I really shoulda gone into politics.

[whiteknightnecromancer]

You should! It needs more people with a sense of humor and how to have fun. The speeches get interminable and sometimes people are rude enough to carry out their assassinations at parties before the dancing is over. So inconsiderate.

[clowngirl]

You should always carry out your assassinations while dancin'. Way more stylish.

[whiteknightnecromancer]

And rude! Though yes, stylish. I've known a few assassins who could do so elegantly.

[He sighs dreamily.]

Any of 'em particularly good-lookin' assassins?

One or two.

[Dorian is deliberately coy.]

The exercises they go through to practice getting in and out of windows made him amazingly flexible. A wonderful dancer.

I feel as if we're getting somewhat off topic. Unless you also know some handsome or beautiful assassins too.

I know one or terribly attractive villains. Not so much dedicated assassins. [You want to play coy, do you?] Close enough to recognize that sigh.

Ah. I see. Usually I'm very difficult to read.

[Lies.]

No worries! I got a pretty good knack for it. [Except when it comes to reading manipulative sociopaths.]

I'll say you do. You must be quite good at cards. I'd like to try you sometime if I can find a deck and a game we both know.

[Dorian is terrible at cards but that doesn't make them less fun for him.]

I'm fantastic! [Because she also cheats.] Betcha we could even make our own deck with enough paper. I'm partial to Hearts but I'm sure we could teach each other whatever we need to.

Sounds like fun. I have some paper but-

[He pulls out a few sheets of construction paper.]

I found this at the school and there wasn't much.

Hmmm, we could always make the teensiest cards ever?

But I'd hang onto that for now. Paper's kinda rare so lessee if there's any more first!

Paper isn't so rare. Blank paper, on the other hand...

Can you imagine shuffling a deck made of teensy cards? That would be the entertainment for the night.

It'd be adorable. And a real challenge, especially if you could get your hands on some alcohol.

There are a few places that drop liquor in town.

Dorian has some whiskey on him.

Yes that might be something to try if we're ever in the same place at the same time.
