[ The cut is a lie.

316: This was a house once, but all that's left is a living room. Still, it's lavishly decorated in blacks and reds, thick tapestries depicting the prophet's eye symbol covering the windows and a delicately carved eye drawn on the inside of the door that exits into the rest of the area. At least, with the tapestries, it's a bit warmer in here than in other places. ]

[ Sylar stop.

He's wondering why is he talking to it. ]

Training usually.

[ He literally beats up and lets others beat up his actual emotions. ]

No matter how many times they have been defeated, their negativity returns back to me. [ Adding quietly: ] It's strange no longer feeling them.

[termineur]

[ Shut up, Vanitas, he will talk directly to your feelings if he wants. At least he's not trying to pet it? ]

So you've been cut off from them.

Y'know, most people would probably like to be separated from negativity.

[ He glances at Vanitas before returning his gaze to the Little Guy. ]

[darkincrement]

[ Yeah please don't that would make this is more weird.

Offering a shrug. ]

I'm not most people.

[ He's a special snowflake ]

It's what I am. [ Notice the what in there instead of the who. ]

[ The response actually gets a smile from Sylar, if only a very weak one. ]

Yeah. I get that. Tough when the town takes that away, huh? Like being lost.

[ He hands over the last cracker to the creature and tosses the package on the floor behind him. The spiderbots can clean up, like they always do. ]

So what's all the training for?

[darkincrement]

[ Going to jerk his head back at that. Wow Sylar. This is a mistake. A big mistake.

He's going to skip answering that. Flood is finishing off the last cracker, but looking at Vanitas again. ]

To get stronger. [ Duh. But he's going to elaborate. Count yourself lucky, Sylar. ]

To make more. [ Gesturing to the creature. ] They are a side effect. They are my negativity and emotions pushed out. I felt what they felt and the more of them destroyed, the more stronger I became.

[ SO YEAH. That's a thing. ]

It was all preparation to complete my Master's goal.

[ He won't comment on it beyond that. He's been there, and felt what he's doing now is the only method of coping. He had to create a new person that could live in this world, since it took the core of who he had been. He knows that loss keenly.

He is actually a little surprised that Vanitas is continuing to answer questions. He listens to the answer with interest and nods. ]

What was his goal?

[ Maybe he's just bored.

The Flood looks between them and then heads over to Vanitas. ]

He wanted to gain the power to recreate all the worlds.

[ That's keeping it simple. ]

I was a short cut to that.

[ He'd been interested, but the response makes his eyes sharpen and he looks to Vanitas with an intense curiosity on his face that had been missing before. ]

Really?

Aren't there infinite worlds, though? What would be the point in recreating them? Or have I heard the wrong multiverse theories?

[darkincrement]

[ Do you really want him explaining Kingdom Hearts?

The keen interest is pretty encouraging in it's own way. Ignoring the Unversed that's now beside him as he continues ]

There could be. I've only seen a small amount. [ There's a pause. ] I was only allowed to leave the Graveyard to put everything in motion.

[ And now getting back to the Kingdom Hearts craziness before they hit close to what Alfie knows. ]

All the worlds used to be connected. The lanes between them were closed off after the Keyblade War.

[ That's right. Keyblades. There is a light emphasis on the word. ]

[ Sylar would absolutely love to hear explanations of other worlds. He listens closely and nods, because nearly every part of the response is something he wants more information on. He only raises an eyebrow when he hears about a 'keyblade war'. ]

So he wants to reconnect them again?

[darkincrement]

He wants to test a theory.

[ Some of this may interest Sylar. ]

To him, there was an imbalance in the worlds. Light was favored over darkness. He wanted to see what would happen if he repeated history and if he could change it. Reorder the worlds to how he wants them to be.

[ Looking away. ]

Just to see if a legend was true.

He wanted to increase the darkness? For balance, or-?

[ Or to just see what happened when the other side won, maybe. Sylar's familiar with doing terrible things to learn and test theories. It does interest him, even if he knows he should be at least a little concerned about the consequences. ]

What was the legend?

So he says.

[ After all the things he's seen, he wouldn't be surprised if there's more to it. Another part to the puzzle. ]

I'm starting to think you like the sound of my voice.

[ There's a light touch of humor in his tone. ]

That people weren't worthy of the light in the past. They fought it until everything was covered in darkness. [ Sorry, you're getting the quick version of the fairy tale. ] There was only tiny seeds of light found in the hearts of children. [ Yeah, it's one of those kind of stories. ] Their light rebuilt the worlds.

[ Tl;dr- So pretty much his Master wants to bring about ruin and destruction to find out if they are worthy and to recreate the worlds the way he wants. FOR SCIENCE.]

[ Sylar smirks slightly when Vanitas accuses him of liking the sound of his voice. The rest, though- it sounded like a children's story. He wondered if that's what it was, in some other, more 'reasonable' universe. ]

I'm gonna guess you're not intended to be one of the kids with 'light' in their hearts. Are you getting anything out of all this?

[darkincrement]

[ He's going to laugh. ]

You got that right. I told you, I was his short cut.

[ Pausing to pat over his pocket to feel the wayfinder there. ]

It's more accurate to say both him and I were the shortcut. [ And now to actually answer his question ] I get what's mine. I get to be whole again.

[ He's got at least some of an idea what was going on. Vanitas was the negativity, separated from...someone else? The rest of himself? Something like that. He nodded thoughtfully, his gaze sliding down to watch the creature that Vanitas had said was made from his emotions. ]

Was he the one who pulled you apart in the first place?

[darkincrement]

He was. [ And offering something further ] Ventus couldn't make the cut for his original plan. He wasn't strong enough.

[ His tone changes for a moment at the name. ]

[ Sylar raises an eyebrow, his expression curious. ]

And hacking him in half made him stronger? Or is it a whole Dark Side, You're-More-Powerful-When-You're-Evil sort of thing?

[darkincrement]

It actually made him weaker. [ Good job Xehanort. ]

Left him an empty shell. He almost ditched him on an empty island, but changed his mind and left him with an acquaintance instead. Told some sob story about a training accident gone wrong and how he learned the error of his ways.

[ Take a short for every lie or half truth Xehanort says. ]

There he actually healed and became useful again.

[ Wow. Sylar looks almost disbelieving as he hears what happened to Ventus, and smirks slightly at hearing he became 'useful' eventually again. ]

So- why are you following this guy again? Because he sounds like someone playing at evil mastermind, who doesn't know what he's actually doing. Why not just go try to join back up with Ventus on your own?

[ He's pretty sure Vanitas won't like that, but he's also trusted in and followed his own share of terrible people. It would've been nice if someone had pointed out what a terrible idea it was, at the time. ]

There are certain conditions that must be met for us to join back.

[ There's also the whole he's been his Master his whole life and it's been weird not being checked in by Leonard Nimoy him. ]

Yeah? And he's the only who can arrange parts of it, I'm guessing. [ He rolls his eyes. ] Did he tell you that?

[darkincrement]

He has no reason to lie about that. He needs our reunion to happen.

[ He's actually not entirely sure how much he needs it, but he knows how much the Master wants it. ]

He's been taking steps to insure that and a younger body for himself.

[termineur]

I guess. [ He looks briefly up to the ceiling, as if contemplating something. ] But if he didn't know what he was doing before, how do you know he does now?

[ He shrugs. He's not going to push much farther than this, but- man, this seems like a crappy situation. ]

You both want the same thing, at least. I'd still try to get yourself a back-up plan, in case his doesn't work out.

[darkincrement]

[ It reminds him of what he himself has said to Ventus before. The helmet hides the lift of the corner of his mouth as he crosses his arms. ]

I have something in mind.

[ Or someone. He did locate a plan b if Ventus failed. He hasn't figured out a plan for if his Master failed though.

That's something he's pretty sure won't happen any time soon. The man was obsessed and Vanitas has seen him lay down the start of other paths to take. ]

Not much I can do here anyways.

[ Which is both a relief and a source of frustration. His voice does betray a little of that. ]
