Hullo, anyone newly arrived. My name's John. I'm one of the resident doctors here. Seeing as the usual welcome crew hasn't stepped up, I wanted to pass along the resources below.

The briefest version of things I can offer is this:

You are in Norfinbury, Alaska in the United States of America on the planet Earth, around the year 2151.
You MUST be inside a building before lockdown every day at 8 PM and lasts until 6 AM the next morning. You will receive a warning notification at 7 PM to get inside on your tablets.
If you see a large, monstrous creature coming at you while you travel, RUN from it. You cannot fight it. You cannot reason with it. You cannot make friends with it. It is an anomaly and as soon as it touches you, you'll be knocked unconscious and either swallowed whole or carried away to be killed.
Death is not always permanent here and you may revive in one of the morgues around town if this happens. Please try to avoid this as it increases your MN Poisoning.
MN Poisoning is medical nanomachine-induced poisoning. Nanomachines are very tiny electronic devices that swim around in your blood. They produce waste while working to keep our bodies functioning. There are massive amounts of radiation in the atmosphere right now. Without the nanomachines we would die.
MN Poisoning can manifest in a variety of ways. Known manifestations include: Depression, obsession, paranoia, pain, sickness akin to tuberculosis, and mania.
The tablet is the device you're using to access this network. Keep it with you and try not to lose it. It is your best connection to the people of this town.
You can contact the administrator of the town by sending a message to @ADMIN. She may not reply.

Norfinbury.... It sounds like something a little European, although looking around, this doesn't look very much like Europe. And given what I've read that suggests this to be somewhere in Alaska, clearly we aren't in Europe.

[ His rabbit trail about Europe aside, there's a good part of him that wants to cast blame for this firmly into House's lap, but considering that the last time he saw him, they were driving off on motorcycles, it seems like a stretch. Furthermore, the survival guide somewhat contradicts that theory.

Regardless, introductions seem to be the first order of business, and then maybe after that, he can begin gaining more information than what he's gotten from the survival guide. ]

Oh yes, hello. I'm James Wilson, and I really don't know what I'm doing here, but I expect I'll figure that out very quickly.

[ Just call it a vibe he has about this place not being very friendly to people who can't adapt on the fly. ]

I know it might be too soon to be saying this, since I don't know what I'm going to be doing here other than try and survive, but I'm a doctor, so if anyone needs a hand with anything- just let me know. It seems that I'm not the only one, though, so that area might already be covered.

[ There's a momentary pause, and when Wilson speaks up again, he sounds a little less brave about the whole thing. The contents of the survival guide have rattled him just a bit. ]

This might seem like an obvious question, but there's no way out of here, is there?

Brain's terse, but I'm afraid he's right. There's no way out immediately. We're working on getting to the center of the town where there may be one.

As for assistance, maybe let's get you sorted first. D'you know where you are, Dr. Wilson? On the town map, I mean.

Another doctor? Jesus, you folks are like flies to a corpse. We are in Alaska, though! Supposedly. I wouldn't know it from anywhere else, but that's what people keep sayin', so I guess that's that. Not a way out of here, either. Sorry.

[Cryptically, and without an introduction, Peter plays this song. If it sounds like it's being played as loudly as possible through a set of earphones and re-recorded through the tablet's audio, that's because it is.]

Meaning we can't leave. I see.

[ It's brief but to the point, something Wilson appreciates, even if it might be a bit too brief. ]

So, you're a healer? I don't think we could ever have too many with those sorts of skills.

As for getting out, well, I suspect there is one but it won't be as easy as simply walking out a door I'm afraid. At least not without convincing whatever power binds us here to release us first.

I was mostly asking as a form of wishful thinking. The way I see it, if someone went through all the trouble of bringing a group of people to Alaska, they wouldn't make it easy to get back.

Well, as far as I can tell from the map, I'm in building 130.

Either it's just luck or someone here likes doctors. If it were up to me, I wouldn't be here, though. And I'm guessing that's true for nearly everyone else.

That's all right. I didn't think leaving would be as simple as finding a door and going through it.

[ Wilson's just going to listen and quite possibly bob along with the song a bit. It's weirdly reassuring, considering he's just landed himself in the middle of Nowhere, Alaska, and there's no obvious way out.

When it's done, assuming there's someone on the other side listening, he says: ]

[ His patients unfortunately mostly end up dying, but he's not sure he should be saying that right now. ]

And how easy is it to convince this power to let us go?

[ Never mind that people don't typically convince "powers" to do anything. ]

Downtown, okay. Well, you've got the best food options in Building 123, but you'll want to get out of there pretty quickly. The weather has a bad habit of turning and trapping people in that area.

It'll take you two days to get to the exit for the area, the Post Office (Building 121). Take your time at the shop down there. Get some real food to go along with the rations you received when you woke up. You won't be seeing it for a good long while apart from down there. Give yourself the full day to get from Building 121 to Building 108. You'll probably need it. Those are ice caves around the hospital. Lots of chances for icicles to fall and spear you.

Once you're to 108, you should have a much easier time of it moving around. Building 111 is the Pharmacy, might want to check that and the hospital to start building up your medkit.

Well, it will be difficult. I think we've been brought here for a reason, though. I think we're supposed to save this place.

...But...

Maybe that's a conversation we can have later. For now just know we're working on finding a way out.

Oh! And take some time to read over those guides. They've been very useful for me in finding my way around.

He's a little relieved to know that not all of his preconceived notions are actually true. ][ Wilson pauses for a second, because the name is vaguely familiar, but he can't quite put a finger on why. ]

Save it? Reading the survival guide, it sounds like someone is throwing everything at us in hopes that we'll all die. How are we supposed to save it if staying out too long kills you, or if there's things out there that will kill you?

[ He's been reading the guides. Perhaps he's been reading too much of them. ]

You're a doctor right? Think of this place as sick. There's a disease and it's trying to defend itself. That disease has been here a long time.

Of course this is really just my opinion so I could be completely wrong.

You know, I can't tell if you're just being optimistic or if getting from point A to point B is a matter of stepping outside my door. This is all assuming I actually make it as far as 108.

[ Wilson isn't completely useless, but he can't help but feel as though the odds are quite clearly stacked against him. The journey from building 130 to 108 sounds harrowing and incredibly difficult.

He's still noting all of this down, of course, but from where he's standing, his chances don't look good. ]

How many people have made the trip and survived?

I think you Americans are meant to be the optimists. [John offers him a wry smile.] People have made the trip. Not sure of the exact number, but when that area first opened up, there was a lot of traffic down that way. You just need to give yourself the full day and be careful about it.

One thing to keep on the lookout for is good boots. I'm assuming you're not wearing shoes that were really meant for snow travel unless it was the middle of winter when you were pulled here. Frostbite on the extremities is something you'll be dealing with most often. That and the MN Poisoning I mentioned in my comment above you.

Meds can't fix MN Poisoning, but they can partially alleviate symptoms. We've found that blood transfusions from healthy patients can temporarily cure MN Poisoning, but the recipient deteriorates over the next 7 to 10 days to where they were at the start. Still working on how to boost the length of the cure.

Oh yeah. It's my outlaw name, or code-name. It's a thing.
