[What good is any of this? It flickers through his mind that if he's meant to be taught humility through physical pain, the Prophet cult - whatever moves it - must know him significantly less well than he thought. Now there's a relief.
But Enoch knows him. And he knows Enoch. And they both have such remarkable capacity to hurt each other with the knowledge. And he wants to strike back, at this shell that has enveloped his friend.]
Still what I am... just as you are. And I'll... I'll get them. Who changed you. I promise. I'll get them good.

[He's definitely in pain, and if the halts in his speech didn't give it away, the clear wince at the end that cuts him off will. What is wrong with him? (If nothing else, can Beckett, sightless and starved, smell his quickened pulse?) Only his continued desire to be in Beckett's company holds him here, for now.]
...Sorry. I shouldn't be leading you into it. You like solving things yourself. You'll...you'll feel differently about the Prophet. I haven't been changed. Enlightened.
[But there is little strength in his voice, all his focus is going to thinking through the headache that had sharply worsened as Beckett led him into the chink he'd found in the shell, the flaw in the graft. His strongest tie to the person he was outside these walls, the vampire is reminding him that others' pain used to affect him much more than this.]

[It comes out in a hideous rasping snarl. Partly because his throat is so dry, and partly because much of his defiance hinges on fury - and partly because he is surviving on the relentless drive of the Beast. He's not even ashamed of it. He sounds, in these brief words, as he did when the death price had stripped that part of him bare.
It's a flash, doesn't last, as they never do. But is a good reminder. He shifts again, trying to move, trying to grab and feel his friend's skin.]
No - control, I'm in - I am in control. Know what I am. Know what you are. The tower... you'll remember. I know.

Without-
[He hisses sharply in pain, grasp on Beckett's hand reflexively tightening.]
I am-...
[He can't complete that thought through the blinding headache - his vision, when he cracks his eyes open, is blurred. Get out, something in him commands, but for the immediate moment he's in too much pain to comply.]

What - what is - what now?

I chose to stop.
His mind tries to think thoughts it shouldn't, again, and again, and again, in pulses of searing white in his vision. The brainwashing can't smother them seamlessly anymore, even if they still never quite reach conscious thought. He releases Beckett's hand to clutch his head, staggering to his feet and away from the vampire at some unknown demand.]
I-...I'm sorry, Beckett, I must- ngh, feels as if my skull's splitting... -I need to go. Rest. I'm sorry.
[He turns and hits the doorframe with his shoulder on the way out with a thump, groaning. He can't remember the last time he had a headache this bad, even in the memories of who he used to be.
He sees another hooded figure in the halls.]
You- please, close his door for me...I'm not well. I need to leave...
[And then, in halted steps, he makes his way to the elevator.]
