Hm. Not working well enough yet. Oh well, he'd get there.

"Its not really dangerous. I know it feels that way at first but you'll find its actually safer than anything or anywhere else.

"You are. You're just kind of confused right now, but that's just part of the conversion. Things will clear up soon."

[holmesice]

"No, you don't understand, he'll get hurt. They're torturing people here!" Mycroft seemed to be missing the fact that he was talking to one of them. "You have to make sure he never comes here!"

"Me? No, you aren't..." he seemed to be getting a clearer picture. "I'm not, I can't..."

[standing_waters]

"I know that its not pleasant when you go through it, but its not actually torture. Its an important part of the process." Its totally medical therapy and therefor 100% okay and not terrible.

"You are."

[holmesice]

"Not actually torture!? What does having your bloody nails ripped off have to do with medical therapy? Or whatever nonsense happened to the others? Not to mention having one's eyelids sewn open--I can't bloody close my eyes, how is that okay you ridiculous buffoon?!"

At least the anger was clearing up some of the fuzziness in his head.

"Being one of you is the last thing I would ever want, idiot."

"Its--"

Wait, something didn't seem quite right. Had they really been doing something that bad? That would--no, no. No, it was what the Prophet wanted. The sinners just didn't understand.

"...you need to see. We're helping you do that."

[holmesice]

Mycroft paused, he may be dreadfully confused right now but he was still himself. He gave the other a look of pure and utter incredulity.

"I need to see? I need to see!? I could already see, you bloody fool!"

[standing_waters]

"Not well enough. You couldn't see what She's been showing us."

[holmesice]

"And just exactly what has she been showing you?" An incredulous look again.

[standing_waters]

"The truth."

[holmesice]

"Which is?" Mycroft doubted he was going to get a straight answer out of any of them, ever.

[standing_waters]

"That the Prophet is above all else and there's nothing greater we could be doing than to help her."

[holmesice]

"Why does she need help? Why is she above all else? How can hurting people be helping anyone!?" Mycroft snapped at him.

[standing_waters]

"She needs earthly agents. And we aren't just hurting, we're teaching you. You need to learn about helplessness and humility."

He has no answer for that middle question, though. Maybe if he just skips it no one will notice.

[holmesice]

"I really don't think we do," Mycroft said in that same, snappish tone. They were going in circles, and he doubted he'd be able to get much more out of him. "If you all are going to keep repeating that, you might as well be an idiotic computer program yourself."

[standing_waters]

"You do. Everyone does."

He chuckles a bit.

"Not a computer program. Just telling the truth, even if you refuse to listen to it."

[holmesice]

"You're deluded, and clearly are unable to listen to reason. Perhaps it is I who should feel sorry for you."

"I'm not."

Is he? No, he's pretty sure he's not. Something seems a bit off, but it doesn't seem like anything important.

"You're confused, though, so I don't blame you for thinking that. But its a good sign--not the refusing to listen to me, the uncertainty you feel. Its part of the process."

[holmesice]

....he was confused? Yes, that's right, he was confused.

"I..."

He rubbed his face. "I...a good sign? No, it's not supposed to be..."

[standing_waters]

"Its a great sign; it means you're finally starting to understand. The process is working."

Which had to be good, right? There was still something a bit off.

[holmesice]

"Is it?" He was tired of fighting, maybe it really was a good thing. Felt wrong, he wanted to protest, they were delusional, not him, but what if he was wrong? It was a lot of pointless exerted effort. "What happens at the end of the process?"

[standing_waters]

"You'll be welcomed as a fellow follower."

[holmesice]

No, that didn't sound good at all. No matter how addled his mind was, he was certain he didn't want that.

"No, thank you."

He smiles, "Just give it some time."

[holmesice]

"Perhaps I don't want to," he said snappishly. Though he worried maybe that's all it would take. Time.
