Such has become the case within the past few centuries, yes. [Also, weird language stuff, which has brought them such fun redundancies as "chai tea."] The plant itself is native to Asia, but it's so popular now that it's cultivated in many other places.

I see. It must be an adaptable plant, to grow in so many places. And tea itself must be exceptionally good, to gain this favor. If I've had it, I certainly don't remember it. It would have been rare, in the area of the world I'd explored.

I can tell - they have so many ways to distinguish between preparations; it must be important to them. One of the main languages that came from my own has nine separate words for wine, for instance. Surely enough, it's vital to ritual and health.
