Boyfriend. Well - fiance, now.

[ He keeps forgetting. ]

But he's a shapeshifter. Has to get used to changing mass and stuff pretty quickly.

[His posture goes stiffer. Fiancé isn't a word he typically hears thrown around that easily when it's two guys; it just plain wasn't legal yet in his last year on earth outside a small part of the country, none of which was anywhere close to including Texas. And then the world ended, so...]

[It's hard to know how it works in Billy's world. Maybe it matters less when shapeshifting aliens are involved. Tempted though he is to ask more, however, this is patently not the time or place. There are too many other people around, besides.]

[He scratches at his forehead to cover as he smooths his expression again.]

So how do you meet a shapeshifting alien, anyway?

[He's curious about that, too. It's just a safer avenue of a conversation to take.]

[ The thing is, it's been long enough that Billy's almost to the point where he's no longer bracing himself. He's almost to the point that he can just say that to a new person without feeling his heart trip over itself. There's a lot of distance between the bullied kid he'd been in sophomore year and the adult he is now.

But he still notices the pause, and he's wary of it, even if there's no reason to be. H doesn't say anything, though, just takes the question. ]

First you wait for a time-traveler from the 30th century to show up and ask if you want to be an Avenger...

[It's a smooth enough transition that Davesprite doesn't think anything of it other than to be glad it wasn't awkward. It helps that the answer is genuinely interesting, and his eyebrows lift appreciatively.]

Thirtieth century? Teddy isn't his real name, is it? It doesn't sound like the kind of thing a time traveling alien from the far-flung future would be called.

Teddy isn't from the future - though that isn't his real name, it's a long story - the guy that introduced us is.

[ Billy pauses and clears his throat. ]

-This is kind of weird to talk about, under the circumstances.

Oh. Huh.

[Which is still pretty dang fascinating, as the sustained raise of his eyebrows will attest. But the second part is valid enough. His eyes scan back over the other cells and the people in them.]
