[The Cat's voice both does and doesn't jolt him out of it—does because he falls silent in record time and does not because haha no, he's not moving from this spot. He will hesitantly lower his hands from his ears but only so that he can listen more closely.]

[ He has to move around to get to an angle where he can spot the boy, but that's hardly important. He begins to purr. ]

[The purring helps. He still feels like shit, but it's a familiar enough sound by now to take some of the edge off.]

Stuck in a cage too?

[It'd be too much to hope otherwise, but Karkat's just enough of an idiot to do it anyway.]

How long were they planning this?

It's impossible to know. They have many strange magics here. It may be that it required very little time to prepare cages suitable to contain each of us.

[From what he'd heard last night, he doubts this, but the Cat is always so damn self-assured that he'd probably be insulted if questioned. Under different circumstances, that might be funny, but Karkat is caught by another query instead. Is he hurt?]

[... The bruises left behind by his ill-fated tumble off his corpse shelf are pretty hard to miss, but. Well.]

[The Cat had revived after them, then? That's... weird, but not the most unusual thing about this situation.]

[He glances across the way to Davesprite, then refocuses on the gray carpet.]

It's probably worse, having to wake up here first.

[ Unfortunately he has no concept of how long it's been. He's relieved that it wasn't too long. ]

It is unexpected, but not entirely unpleasant. I only wish that I had not been given clothes in the mean time.

I mean that if you lured them in or something, you size could make it easier to slip past them that way? If they try to drag you out or whatever. The cell doors would be easier for them to block.

[He's pretty sure, anyway.He still has no fucking clue what they're dealing with here, but the principle seems sound.]
