[He does follow most things, but so many people got hurt during the tablet fiasco that it's been hard to keep up with all of them.]

It exploded? How did that happen?

I guess she didn't approve, huh? Are you going to be okay?

Yeah, I'll be alright. It doesn't hurt as much as it did the other day.

[At least, he's getting used to how much it hurts.]

And I'm pretty good at adapting. Doctor John's been taking good care of me.

But... your eye? Is it going to get better?

[Did the shrapnel pierce his eyeball, or is he going to heal up? Al doesn't want to think of Quark permanently half blind for this experiment, especially when it doesn't seem to have yielded any answers.]

[Quark tries his best not to look as discouraged as he feels, but his shoulders slump anyway and he wraps his blanket more tightly around himself.]

[He feels his stomach sink. He reaches out to try and put a gentle hand on Quark's shoulder if he'll allow it.]

I'm sorry.

[Quark doesn't stop Al from the gesture, and even forces himself to smile.]

It's okay. I should've been more careful. I dunno that I can really blame anyone but myself. I'm sure I'll get used to this in no time! I'm really good at that.

[Quark's being really brave about this, and Al can't help but admire that.]

...that's what my brother said when he lost his arm and his leg. Granny told him the surgery and rehabilitation would take three years, and he did it in one. Now he's as strong as ever, so-- so I know you can do it too.

I'm sorry I didn't really get a chance to talk to your brother when he was here...he sounds like a really cool person.

[Al isn't going to hope he comes back, that's a disrespect to Ed's memory and everything they ever worked towards.]

He was the strongest person I ever knew.
