I am unhurt, and you?

[He does his best to look for him through the bars.]

I'm Mycroft Holmes.

Not hurt. And warm, for a change, which is kind of...okay. [He's not going to say 'nice' because he's in a hospital gown in a cage. He's seen movies, he knows this usually doesn't go good places.]

I'm Rhys. Another Rhys. Who really needs to find a nickname but, nice to meet you, at least.

[Rhys shifts so that he can get a better look at the other man. As rough-looking as he seems, he's got thoughtful eyes, and the lines of his face suggest a gentle demeanor: more smiles than anger.]

[holmesice]

[Mycroft deduces these things from his appearance, despite he hospital gown. Seems as if it was a common article of clothing--if it could be called clothing.]

I should hardly think in these circumstances there is anything nice about meeting anyone at all. At the very least we're all probably going to die.

[It's...unclear if that's his death price doing its thing (as he cannot lie), or if he's really always like that.]

[Well, at least that saves Rhys the trouble of trying to be discrete about it.]

Yeah, under the circumstances...Sitting and obsessing about it doesn't accomplish much. [He shrugs his shoulders.] I'm just glad not to be alone, honestly.

[holmesice]

I would rather be alone, at least no one else would suffer save myself. [His tone is a bit cold.]

[sleight_of_fate]

[Rhys shrugs.]

Yeah. I guess there's that.

[He sits back down, staring off into space. The shadowy thing inside him laughs, way back in the corner of his mind. Why are you bothering again?]

Because dying alone in a hospital bed was total shit.

I guess I'll get better at it with practice.

[holmesice]

[Mycroft is not a comforting person. He finds coddling or any sort of reassurance maudlin and pointless. Unless it's to do with Sherlock, of course.]

Or you won't. Either way, this is going to end horribly.

Well, yeah.

But I haven't got any drugs on me, sooo...

[He shrugs.

That's...kind of the end of that conversation, isn't it?]

[holmesice]

If you do drugs, you're an idiot.

[Spare him, please. He doesn't want to think about Sherlock right now.]

Actually, I quit but I'm starting to question that decision.

[If nothing else, there's a strange, comforting familiarity n being told he's a fuckup.]

[holmesice]

Then you'd have gone from a wise decision to an unwise one.

Yeah. Good coping mechanisms aren't exactly my thing. I've got a long list of really bad ones, which are kind of a shame because I'm actually a pretty nice guy.

[holmesice]

I usually don't interfere or bother with the business of people in general unless they're acting against the state or breaking the law or in need of surveilance--[He sounds distasteful, like people were so troublesome in daring to bother him with their existence...] --but if you hold any value at all on your well-being, you need to get some. [Maybe he reminded him a little bit of Sherlock what with the drugs.]

Yeah. I figured that.

[Rhys has a feeling that his relationship with Mycroft is going to be one hell of a conflicted one...]

I do appreciate the reminder, though. I've been trying, it just doesn't always work out the way I planned.

[There is actually no sarcasm in that. He does mean it, even if he's already aware of it.

Deciding not to bother the man any more, he goes quiet.]

[When Rhys goes quiet, so does Mycroft. He's not his little brother, and not going to try to lecture him more--as if that ever worked on Sherlock...]
