I'm with you on wanting to know who it is, though. And if they're still around? Making them regret everything.

So does that mean you have a little sense of what this multiversal neighborhood looks like? At least to the point that there is a neighboring dimension.

[ He nods at the bars, frowning. ]

Yeah, we're going to have to work with whoever comes this way. Hopefully we will have someone come this way eventually. We seem too clean for them to leave us to starve.

[It's just enough of a non sequitur to leave him momentarily flummoxed, but then... fuck, what the hell. Is nothing sacred?]

Same goes for you. [ Royce murmurs. He's a dickhead, sure, but he probably won't just leave people here, if he finds a way out. Probably. ]

[The sight of that gets actual snickering out of him, though he tries to stifle it. Cat in a hospital gown, what's the point? Why even imprison him? But that line of wondering only draws him back to the reality of the situation. He's glad they're all alive, but when reviving means being here in time for this...]

[He breathes in, sighs.]

I wish you didn't have to come back just for this. I wish we had missed all this.

[He may not know what's going to happen, but his guesses already lie around the cult. Who else has modified the industrial buildings so extensively? All evidence says they don't treat their victims well.]

[Watching Karkat move drags up even greater concern. It's different from his own troubles. He can feel where his limbs all are, feel when he balance is tipping, everything. The way Karkat watches himself is as thought he isn't sure he's doing it right. And maybe he isn't, without touch to guide him.]

[That concern squeezes at him again to hear the repeated apology.]

Dude, don't.

It doesn't even matter. Or it does, but not next to this. You said the wrong thing, I flipped instead of talking, we can sort it out later.

[When he's not in a cell next to House. When they're not in cells at all.]

Doubt it. [ But - he'll be quiet after that, because he's not going to completely be an asshole. Just a little of one. ]

[He finally glances up at that, his gaze flicking over to House because yeah, he caught that implication. They can't talk about this in front of other people, and frankly, he doesn't want to when it's private.]

[Karkat's hands wrap around the bars again and he nods, frowning slightly as his eyes begins wandering up and down Davesprite's altered form. They can leave that discussion for another time and he probably shouldn't say anything else related to the topic at all, but—]

At least I can look directly at you without blinding myself now.

[ He makes a face. ] Elanese.

This might surprise you, but I don't know a lot of slang. [ A beat. Dryly: ] I'm old.

How old?

[He's... not sure how to tell. Don't elves live a really long time in all those books and movies? He's not about to bring that up, though.]

[ Royce has no idea how long he's supposed to live, and that's one of those things he does his very best not to think about. ]

I don't know. Early forties, I'd guess.

[Thank fuck Karkat has a sense of time and place about this. He can see the shift in Karkat's focus, and of course he'd be looking at him now, with everything so different. He's Dave plus Norfinbury and a little extra time. There are bruises already from where failures of balance have struck him. It's an uncomfortable kind of feeling, and he shifts his stance carefully under his gaze.]

[What Karkat actually says cuts the tension enough for a laugh.]

You sure about that? Put me out in the snow and we'll see what's paler. This place is terrible for tanning, Vantas. I've got the legs of an agoraphobic mannequin.

The sleeves are giving me difficulty.

[ He's been trying, okay, but he doesn't really want people watching him while he flails around desperately trying to get out of this gods-cursed thing. ]

[ He keeps scratching at it for another thirty seconds or so, hoping he'll catch the knot with a claw. ]

But we are alive now, and we must do our best to stay this way.

And hopefully they'll be more agreeable than the cloaked figures. [ He pauses, a thought occurring to him. ] Or those of us who played the role of cultists in the visions. Do you think that's where the others have gone?

[ It's a lesson one would think he'd have learned by now, but somehow these things surprise him every time. ]
