[It takes Kid a long while to respond, but when he does his voice is thick and watery. It's unlike when he and Stephen had spoken before--it sounds much more like he's been crying. Not that he's been crying, gosh.]

I know. [He sniffs. All right. Maybe he was crying a little.] I have been told people say things when they are angry that they do not really mean.

[Stephen doesn't recognize the voice -- doesn't recognize anything about anyone right now -- but it would be kind of hard to miss how bad he's fucked this up from what he does hear. Better to have kept out of it when he didn't even know to whom he was talking, or even who's listed on the obituary.]

[Nevermind that Marie has been a mess since Stein died--and Kid can't blame her. He's with another person, but he hasn't ever felt more alone.] I am angry. They-- [His voice hitches, the slightest hiccup, before he can press on.] They are entirely distinct emotions.

No, I know. I meant -- it scares me. That we might lose a resource if the admin takes our complaints too seriously, I mean.
