sup everyone
so i visited andromedas place again since she dropped some info on me before
i told her about whats been going on recently from the escher dreams up to the anomalies that were just following us
and asked her about the lights and why she and samantha were trying to help each other
she didnt answer things directly
but i did get an sd card from her with this on it

[The message has been uploaded to the public data record, but he copypastes it here:]

"I have to keep going. This part of the town is so dangerous, the people here are the worst affected, but I have to keep going through, or Winter died for no reason.

I told Samantha which buildings to avoid, and she told me to avoid the church and the high school.

I can fix this."

so like
it kinda falls in with the audio file i found before
the one where she was telling winter that the cultists didnt know what they were doing and she could fix it
and both watson and i talked to the admin recently too
she told me she didnt have any recordings of the whole turning into monsters thing
and when watson asked it turns out we just looked like usual
like people
not the things we turned into
and suggested that it was mn poisoning making us see shit
we already know mn poisoning fucks people up from what happened to jia xu
but the other part of this is obviously places to look out for and be careful about
the high school hasnt been found yet has it
and im guessing the church is separate from the chapel if people havent found anything unusual there

im going to be scooting along to my last stop for the night but if yall got extra thoughts slap em down

[He can hear the weariness in Davesprite's voice and he can't help but be concerned, wondering if something else has happened that he hasn't found out about yet. Or maybe it's just something as simple as a late night and long hours of travel.]

I'm not sure, maybe something we could use like picks to help climb so we don't have to touch the wall directly?

[A beat.]

Are you okay? Do you need anything?

[Fuck, okay. He probably could have guessed it would come through. He swaps over to private since he doesn't want to make a spectacle of feeling shitty. And well, he already did enough on the obit.]

Jade's dead and Karkat's lost his emotions. Both of them are from my world. Nothing to do about either of them but wait for the situation to change.

[There's... more than that, honestly, but that's the easiest to mention.]

I dunno about safely climbing up those. You'd have to find something that could not only support your weight, but hold you out far enough from it to not shred yourselves, but that you could still pull out and jam back in higher while you climb. ... I take it just being metal wasn't enough?

[It's a genuine question in spite of the rhetorical phrasing. He's heard that Al can bleed and all, but it's another thing to imagine.]

[He exhales heavily, genuine sympathy bleeding through to his tone. He can't say that maybe Jade will be back because, even if it's true, he just can't bring himself to go down that path.]

Is there anything I can do?

[This is more important than his hands right now, so he'll let that topic go for a moment.]

Just said there's nothing but to wait.

[There's a soft sound as he pushes his hand through his hair. His voice goes tighter, restraining itself.]

Jade might have been gone for a while already. Brian and I hadn't heard from her in a while.

I thought she was travelling with Brian, what happened?

[Before the death, he means, since obviously they weren't together when it happened.]

Brian died a while back is what. He revived away from her, and the last he heard from her is when he still had his loss, which lines up pretty much with when I last talked to her too. She stopped answering me in the middle of things, and I thought...

[He goes quiet. Al doesn't need the details, and they aren't... What, exactly? They're important, but how does he fix them while Jade is gone? He can't until she comes back. If she comes back.]

I checked in with him the other day about it, and neither of us knew anything more.

But-- But if she'd been gone before now, wouldn't she have been on the obituaries before now?

[He can't explain why she went radio silent, but he's not heard of anyone dying and the report of their death being delayed for some reason.]

How long ago was it that she stopped replying to you?

[He doesn't like thinking about it, because the truth is he just doesn't know what happened. From the sound of it, no one does.]

The obits have glitched before. Remember when Enoch was on there twice? He did die two times, but way before it went up. And I haven't heard from her since night 217, when I came back from my last death.

[The same night everyone had been blurting their fears.]

That's quite a long time ago, have you tried asking the Admin? Even if she got it wrong with the obituaries, she should be able to tell you when Jade-- and what actually happened to her.

[He knows he'd want to know if it were him.

It's painful to lose a loved one, he knows that too well, but it's worse then the circumstances are a mystery.]

[The lack of footsteps covers how he falters. Ask the Admin? He could, but... Fuck, what would be the result of that? It was one thing for her to stop talking to him in the middle of an awkward conversation, one where he told her why he'd told her why he'd had so much trouble talking to her about things in the first place, but Brian? Her and Brian were glued at the fucking hip before he ever showed up. She had more personal experience with him than she ever had with him as Davesprite, the one in her timeline dead after only a few days on the ship.]

[So what could the Admin tell him? That she was dead already? Or did something happen to her that kept her from talking, but failed to kill her until now? He had wondered about that in asking Brian about things, but the thought of receiving confirmation...]

[He draws in a shaky breath. Shit. Calm, even, come on.]

Nah.

[Voice tighter, talking around a lump.]

Jade can tell me later.

[If she comes back. He just gave Clint a too long list yesterday of people who haven't.]

[He's not going to argue, even though the thought of Davesprite relying on a conversation that can only happen if someone comes back from the dead is horrible to him.]

...so, uh...

[Changing the subject is the only way to get past this without an argument about the morality of raising the dead.]

What's the difference between a high school and an elementary school? We never had the distinction where I'm from.

[The ability of people to come back from the dead here is the only hope he has of righting the problems he has with Jade. He knows Al has issues over that for some very good reasons, but he can only dance around that so much. And if it lends to the change in topic, so much the better.]

[He's glad, even if it's obvious, though it takes him a moment to draw his thoughts away.]

Elementary only goes up to around age 12 or 13. High school is... Different places run the years different sometimes? You've got shit like junior high and senior high, or middle school and high school, but anyway, it's the later years. And you graduate around age 18 unless you drop out sooner.

Wow, sounds like there should be a lot more schools here than just the one we found, I had no idea. Back in Amestris, there was only the one school in my village and I stopped going when I was five.

Stopped at five? Five is pretty much when you start, unless you go to preschool. I've got no idea what the population was like here, though. The more kids around, the more schools you need, but we're up in remote northwest Alaska. Not exactly a hot spot for population.

[Granted, Norfinbury being this developed is a weird thing all its own. He still wonders why this place was special.]

Mmmhm, most people went to school a lot longer than that, but it wasn't so unusual for us to stop then. Even Winry had stopped going to school by the time she was twelve, she already knew enough about making automail to work in the shop full time.

[Schooling is much more lax in Amestris.]

But you think there might at least be one of each of those types of schools? An elementary, a middle, and a high school?

Damn, dude. That would never fly in my country. Not least for reasons being this thing called child labor laws.

I suppose it depends how many kids there were. If there was only one elementary, they might have been able to get away just doing one compound high school for all the later years.

So you think it could be either one or two more schools that we're looking for?

Yeah, but you'd have to get somebody else to do the numerical speculation. Figuring out average class size for remote Alaskan towns ain't my strong point.

I'll definitely try and find someone to help out with that, it could be useful to know what sort of population lived here and how many schools we need to look for.
