[network; voice] @haurchefant; Night 206 [open]
Good evening, my friends!
A few nights ago my companions and myself met up with Mickey and were set upon by monsters. As you can plainly see-or, ah, hear-we are well enough.
The event got me thinking on a conversation I had with Alphonse some days past. How big must a group be to attract unwanted attention?
Thus far it seems to be five. My companions and I are four and we travel unharassed but meet with trouble when that number becomes more.
I wonder if anyone else has had similar experiences? We've long known larger groups draw the beasts but the precise numbers have been uncertain. Is there a point where an encounter becomes a certainty?

I've heard about that happening to larger groups, too. And that sometimes the beacon has something to do with it as well.
But if you don't mind me asking, how many monsters were there?

A group is not, I understand, the only way to encounter such creatures, nor must the beacons factor in.
Twice I've encountered solitary creatures while on my own but the last time this happened was many moons ago.
I am wondering if there is a number of travelers past which point a group is guaranteed to meet with these beasts.
Text | @Summoner
I've been attacked when alone and with one other person by one monster.
[ She pauses. ]
But when it was a larger group--more than five, actually--it was three.
I wonder if their numbers are based on our numbers?
[ Which suggests intelligence. ]
@haurchefant; voice
We developed a routine for dealing with them.
Text | @Summoner
[ Including hers? Yeah...She watched it. ]
And what did you do to deal with them?

[ Why are spiders the popular theme here? ]
@haurchefant; voice
As with many other attacks by anomalies, the webbing could render a man unconscious.

[ A pause as she makes a sound of disgust. ]
Of course. They can't be allowed to give us a fighting chance, now can they?

These creatures did not strike me as familiar, no, though we seldom gave ourselves the opportunity to get very close for long.
no subject
[ And she had hoped to be the only person to suffer that.
And sorry, she has to give a wry chuckle. ]
Yeah, I don't blame you for not getting close. Considering what happens if you do.

I know you have had the addition of my own company before and we ran into monsters then.

There have been two times we've run into an anomaly when there were four of us together. Most of our other encounters happened when there were more than that.

Has aught changed in the behavior of these anomalies or have we merely hit upon a streak of misfortune? 'Tis difficult to say...

[If Kunsel's voice is a little bit dry, well, who wants to push their luck and risk their lives?]
It may be better to play it safe and try to avoid combining groups at all.
no subject
I'd not want to put my comrades at risk by trying these creatures' patience.
It is poor fortune indeed that we must needs travel in smaller groups, but we can at least still use these devices to speak with one another.
no subject
Having these tablets has made this whole experience infinitely more bearable. We're isolated enough as it is.
[He doesn't even want to think about a life without some connective device in his hands.]
Makes it easier to collect information, too.
