[log] Event: Lavender's Green, Part Two [open]

Characters: everyone
Location: mysterious, white hallways
Date: Day 193-194
Summary: Find friends. Get lost. Don't look.
Warnings: Potential for gore and psychological horror. Please note any specific warnings in your subject lines!

While confusingly similar, the area is split into a few different sections:

The Core
The hallways here are narrow and twist at a rapid rate. With how dazzlingly white everything is, it's easy to not realize you're coming on a turn and slam right into the walls. There are no rooms here--no one starts here, though they may find it while they wander. At the center is a large, round area, like the center of a spiral. There's a lot of air pressure here.

The Inner Hallways
The largest area, filled with dead ends, gentle slopes and twists, and, occasionally, difficult-to-see drops where a higher hallway intersects with a lower one without a wall to separate them. The whole place tastes vaguely like blood. Most rooms are here--most people start here.

The Outer Hallways
The outer ring of the ball of yarn. It's not as thick with halls and twists as the other two areas, leading to a lot more boring walking in one direction. It's totally possible to circle around the same path multiple times without realizing it, as everything is so similar here. Occasionally, footsteps can be heard just outside the farthest walls. Sometimes, something breathes. There are a few rooms here--some people will start here.

Remember to note what kind of eyes your character has in their top level!

Dr. Stein being one of those people to avoid according to the list. Is that bad luck on your part or planned? [He nodded his head as he took in the information on the little girl, and he wondered what she was about. Why attack depending on the distance? A ruse of sanity perhaps?] Is she a prisoner of Norfinbury normally?

[Yet another sign of the limitations of John's abilities to deal with certain situations, but he couldn't fault the man. Hurting children was painful for anyone, some more than others. It was interesting how the situations that they faced here so often put a person to either cross a line they normally wouldn't or be gravely injured because of them facing their own limitations over and over.]

There was nothing in my direction as far as I could tell. Seems like yours might be more productive. [He began to head in the direction where it seemed John had come from to search for the intersection in question.]

Do you have a particular direction you want to go in? The center, I assume. Unless you're searching for someone?

I'd planned to amputate a few frostbitten fingers for him. His mania was a touch more out of hand at the time than I realized. [Planned and bad luck together.] Probably would have been fine if we hadn't got stuck and had our eyes change. [He gestures to the Prophet Eye symbol where his normal eye should be.] Dr. Stein wanted to see if the differences were purely aesthetic or physiological, as well. Looking from the outside wasn't good enough, apparently. He's... more stable again, but do be careful around him. [There's a tinge of irritation to John's tone and expression as he says this. He's still frustrated with Stein, angry with him... hating him for putting John in the position of being his medical proxy. That's a discussion for another day with someone who isn't Pierce, though.]

As far as I know the girl's new here. I've only ever heard about something like it before when people got possessed by the people who were in Norfinbury previously. There was one girl who couldn't seem to speak and attacked people. Not sure if it's the same thing. Or at least something similar. She seems to know who she is, and I have seen her name and face about on the network. The people who were possessed thought they were the people possessing them.

[John follows after Pierce as he's explaining, good hand to the wall as he watches the other man closely to see where it's safe to step. The intersection is fairly close, just some thirty feet on. There's the option to go straight ahead or left.]

We'll want to bear left here for a new area. I am headed for the center, though, yeah. I figure Sherlock'll head there. He's the one I'm looking for.

[Goodness, that was quite the story, and he certainly could add mania to the list of mental afflictions that he had heard or guessed that people had suffered from while here. It seemed as if having a good wounding now and again was part of the game of this place, and it was interesting that so many people were better off dying over the usual maiming that could occur. He supposed cutting out another man's eye was for the advances of science, but it an extreme that he couldn't guess had come all that willingly. People tended to be better off with two eyes after all.] Well, this maze here is the first time that I've actually been in the physical presence of people since I arrived, and you certainly aren't doing much to convince me that traveling in a group is worthwhile.

[Ah, there was a child that he had seen when he first arrived. He had not thought much of it aside from brief disgust that this place would haul in a child of all things to a wasteland like this. So the child was going crazy? Children were often so honest about their afflictions rather than trying to hide it long-term.] Interesting concept. I suppose we need an exorcist to deal with the possession problem, assuming that it actually exists.

[He looked down each path of the intersection, but everything appeared the same in this blank white. He took the left option, having to step exaggeratedly low into a dip in the floor five feet in. He shook his head and eased his way to the other side, reaching out to cup John's elbow as a warning in case the half-blind man wasn't yet aware.]

Mind yourself. And Sherlock is the man you normally travel with, I take it?

When you find someone you trust, it's easier. There are only a few people you really need to watch out for. I misjudged Stein, that's all. I thought he was more in-control than he was. I won't be making that mistake again. I've only got the one other eye, and it'd be a shame to lose that one, too, even if it'd balance me out. [Hope you enjoy morbid humor, Pierce.]

[He only shrugs at the exorcist comment. It's less exorcist and more IT is what John's guessing, but there's no real way to know. When Pierce reaches for him, there's half a second where the doctor shies away before letting the other man lead him. He's trying to put on a face of not suspecting him. Maybe he can just play this off as the general fear they're all experiencing.]

Thanks. Sherlock's who I've been traveling with, yeah. He's my best mate from back home. I'm lucky I have him here. Is there anyone from home for you in Norfinbury? [It's asked lightly. Ever so lightly.]
