[network] @IAmLegend; video; Day 182 [open]
In case anyone hasn't spoken to a friend for obvious reasons, we seem to have all cooled off. I know now might not seem like the best time, but after what happened it's more important to keep in contact with each other and stay with people.
[Tony really wishes Steve were here. It should be him making this kind of announcement.]
What happened the day before wasn't an accident. It was something, the town maybe, trying to reach out and assert its influence over all of us. And if we react by dropping the work everyone has done so far? It wins. It gets exactly what it wants, because all of us break apart, making us easier to pick off. Or we give up. What we should be doing is pushing back and finding out who the prophet really is. We need to try to figure out what they intend to do for our own safety.
If there's anything I can do to help the rest of you, I still intend to do that. I'm not going to stop. I want everyone to be safe. And the best way to help each other is communication. Like the man said yesterday, don't shut down. He's a good guy.
So, on that note, my name is Tony Stark. I'm considered a superhero on the Earth I come from. We handle organizations that want to endanger the world, the occasional intergalactic threat, and... Things like this when they happen. Some of you might consider that a police force, but we're more of a general emergency response solution. I just want to give you a fair idea of who I am.
[He's holding the tablet up so he can address them properly, and raises his off-hand to gesture.]
Also, I have questions. First, how are your eyes? If you are still showing signs of change, I'd like to know. Do you feel different? Secondly, if you are alone right now and weren't with someone when this started, please check in. Let us know everyone is still here and no one is stranded without help. And if you have questions, today I'm going to be completely open.

It was a way to fill the void. To be someone, anyone but me. The crap in-between wasn't doing it for me.
no subject
it doesn't ascribe any grand meaning to life
no subject
I just want mine to matter.
no subject
fair enough
did it work?
no subject
He actually makes a difference.

no subject
[Oops.]
He used to be my bodyguard. Tony Stark's bodyguard.

ftfy

Yes, I used to say Iron Man was someone I employed. They were different lives. And I'm not the only one that's ever kept a secret like this. Or the only one that's referred to Iron Man as a separate person.

maybe you should consider talking to a shrink
i hear it's fun to mess with them
no subject
I've talked to psychiatrists. Believe it or not, Iron Man wasn't much of a topic for them.
no subject
you are iron man
that means they respect you
i don't respect either of you
if it helps
no subject
They really don't. Trust me. But it's nice to have that perspective. I can rest easy knowing that I'm no worse than anyone else in one person's eyes at least.
[Such a charmer.]

[What a brat.]
Why did you become a doctor?
no subject
why do you care?
no subject
I was just wondering. There are lots of reasons people end up doing what they do.
no subject
and i'm a doctor because of a janitor
[There. Take that bone, Stark. House knows he probably shouldn't just be handing this out, but it's not like he actively keeps it a secret. And he's depressed enough about Wilson's death that he doesn't feel that inclined to fight.]
no subject
[He doesn't mock or try to make anything out of that small statement. What made him pick up Iron Man? A land mine and a scientist that was nicer to him than he ever deserved. He waits, quiet for a moment as he takes that in.]
Was it someone you knew personally, or just an incident?

i don't even know the guy's name
i was rock-climbing with a couple of guys in japan when i was kid
one of them fell
it was a remote area
there was something a lot more wrong with him than a few broken bones
the trauma had triggered something else
the doctors at the local hospital didn't know what to do
my guy was failing on life support
so, they brought in the janitor
little guy, somewhere in his 60s
he took a minute or two and had it figured out
told the docs what to do
my guy was fine
i found out later the janitor was the best doctor in the place
but he was a burakumin
one of the untouchables in japanese society
he was the smartest guy there
and they still ignored him until there was a problem none of the 'acceptable' doctors could figure out
i figured he only got the interesting cases that way
seemed like it'd be more fun than working in a physics lab

So you wanted to be a doctor, but you also wanted to be left alone.
[Yeah, that sounds familiar.]

i didn't wanna be bored
people are boring most of the time
[It's why he avoids the clinic when he can.]
they care about bullshit social niceties
grease the wheels with a friendly bedside manner and get the cash machine going with your kindly family doctor
he didn't have to deal with any of that
no one expected him to be nice or charming
he just came in to do something he wanted to do and he did it
and they needed him
so they kept him around
must've been a nice little power trip for a guy in his position
>private
Or maybe he liked it better that way. Solitude. I guess it depends on what you want.
[He thinks it would be painful to be hated and ostracized by everyone. That's a life he doesn't think he could stand. But some people seem to prefer being alone, and he knows that there are days where he just wants to be alone in his garage. He can't blame House for wanting to pursue his puzzles.]
I can see the appeal.
>private
is this going somewhere, stark?
>private
Was it everything you wanted it to be? From the guy with identity issues to the man that has himself figured out. Did it work?
