Street thugs and crime bosses, mostly. I used to run in Hell's Kitchen but I moved to San Francisco recently. I try to keep to cities.

Haven't talked to Tony yet. But you're telling me Hell's Kitchen is a place, and not just a TV show where a British guy with anger issues curses out people for cooking wrong? Or is there is a secret seedy underworld lurking beyond the set of hit reality TV shows? Nah, who am I kidding, of course there is. Is Gordon Ramsay a criminal? Are you gonna arrest him, or kick his ass on air maybe? You should insult his risotto. I bet he adds too much broth.

Yes, Hell's Kitchen is a real place. It's a neighborhood in New York City. I don't think I've ever met Gordon Ramsay, but I might have eaten at one of his restaurants before, though.

You were from another Earth?

Yep. This meteoric apocalypse called the Reckoning came on April 13, 2009, pulverized everything into dust. A few of us escaped to another chunk of reality via this game we were playing, but the Earth was done for, basically.

There's a bunch of people from different time points and worlds besides, so don't get too excited about that. You haven't seen the talking cat yet.

I've heard about similar theories with different worlds and that sort of thing, at least it's not totally unheard of with people like the Avengers and all.

[ Again, Matt deals more with criminal masterminds than Galactus, destroyer of worlds, but he Knows Things. What do you even tell a kid whose world was destroyed?? ]

Yep. Couple of them, depending how you count it. There's the actual cat on four legs who's also a constellation somehow—don't ask me how that one works—and there's the bipedal furry-looking dude like something you'd find off FurAffinity.

So there's literally no rhyme or reason to why we all ended up here, is what you're saying.

I dunno. It's not like the Admin listed out a reason for 'why me' when I showed up, you know? Supposedly we're all looking for a way out or whatever, but why it had to be us losers is anyone's guess.

That sounds about right. I guess I'm still trying to make sense of the place, but that isn't gonna happen any time soon, huh?

Probably not. I've been here almost 10 days and I'm more confused than I started. But if you want a word of warning, if you start getting any insidious suspicions making you think everyone is fake, or if you start hearing whispers about a prophet, stuff like that, it's this place royally fucking with you. Don't listen to it.

Sounds like people dying here is pretty common. Either that or it's been a really rough week.

It's both. Nat and Tony died, too, if they haven't told you. There's this obituary that goes up every couple days, so if no one can tell you around when it happens, that will let you know. Just try not to die yourself, and if you do, hope you don't lose something too annoying when you revive.

Not necessarily. I lost the ability to make words for a few days. Not sound—I could still make noises or laugh or whatever—but I couldn't speak, type, or write. The closest I got were a few sign language... signs that Clint taught me.

[Whatever you call them. He'd demonstrate, but there's obviously no point.]

I'm not sure what Nat lost. Nothing that's come up in our conversations, at least.

That's Brian. There's some freaky... being that messed with his head. I don't know about it directly, and the way I'd explain what I've heard wouldn't make sense out of context, but it's nothing good, you know? Ask Natasha about him. He's dangerous, and she gave me enough links to back it up.

He doesn't speak. I don't know if he can't or if he just doesn't want to, but even in person he doesn't. Which is somehow the least weird thing about him, considering he goes around wearing a mask and filming everything.
