[log] Murder and Meet-ups at the Hospital- Day 165 [open]

Location Building 131 (the Hospital)
Date: Day 164 to Day 166? Mostly focusing on Day 165.
Summary: Mohinder discovers Sylar's secret and it doesn't go well. Hopefully it'll go better with anyone Sylar meets afterwards.
Warnings: Violence and death.

131: The roof of a large, square hospital. At first, it seems like this is as far as you can go--but actually, there's a door on the rooftop. It's locked, but there's a card key reader attached. As for what spared it from having its parts stripped? It was frozen over with ice, though not any longer. The building can now be entered from the rooftop.

The hospital is eerie in its silence, and snow presses in against many of the windows, keeping much of it in sterile darkness. It still smells like a hospital; the antiseptic is fresh, and there isn't much dust. Someone must be cleaning it, and yet it's clear no one is here. The hospital is four stories high with one basement, all connected via the elevator lobby and staircase.

Sylar tilts his head to the side slightly, clearly interested. He wasn't expecting Kesara to come up. "A little, on her post a few days ago. She was trying to figure something out with the eye app?" It didn't seem to go too well, whatever it was she was doing, but he doesn't mention that.

[devoutish]

"I missed all that," Alfie sighs. "But she's filled me in a bit. She's made excellent progress in many things, in all the time I've been here."

[termineur]

Sylar nods thoughtfully. "I'll have to keep in touch with her, then. I don't know if her app was what caused everything with the eyes and the static. That was awful, at least you missed that. But I imagine she'll find out, if any of it was connected."

"Her or House. Yeah." Alfie clears his throat. "Fucking awful man, but we're lucky to have him."

"That's for sure," he confirms. House was important here. "Him and Kesara both look at things from different angles- it's helpful to have all the different points of view. Even if some of them are jerks."

He quite likes House, personally. But he's not surprised that most don't.

[devoutish]

"I'm still shocked that one of our most valuable people here is a child." He would definitely not have expected that.

[termineur]

"You are?" He smiles slightly. "I think that might speak more to the selection process for whoever they bring here. All of the children I've talked to so far are exceptionally bright. And I suppose they'd have to be to last very long here."

[devoutish]

"Exceptionally bright, and exceptionally capable. But if you think of them as victim of a selection process, it gives you the chills, doesn't it."

[termineur]

"Yeah, it really does," Sylar replies, looking down at his hands. "And, I don't know, maybe I'm just seeing patterns where there are none. But there's a lot of heroes here. And doctors, and people who have risen to a challenge before. A lot of self-motivated people. It looks like that extends to the children." He looks off into the distance, thinking about it, then chuckles. "I don't know where that'd put the talking dog, though."

[devoutish]

"And what are you?" Alfie asks. "You're not a doctor. Are you a hero? Are you self-motivated?"

[termineur]

Oh, right. This man is interested in such things. Sylar shakes his head. "Not a hero. Self-motivated, I guess? I really lacked a direction in my life until I found out about my ability. Uh, there are some people on my world that can do things others can't. Fly, float things, stuff like that. After I found out about mine, everything sort of...fell into place for me. I was going out to meet other people with special abilities, help them understand what they had."

He shrugged and looked down at his hands for a moment. "I didn't get very far before we ended up here, but I knew that was what I wanted to do."

"You've got reason to want to get out, then, and motivation to try to make that happen," Alfie reasons. "And that - that's not universal. We've got people who never want to go home; we've got people who say that they can't, because they're dead." Which seems a little strange to Alfie, but not entirely unbelievable.

[termineur]

"They're dead? Already dead back home, or going to die if they go there? Yikes." Now, he hadn't heard that before. Sylar looks away, thinking about that for a moment. It still makes sense with his personal theory. "Guess I might be wrong about that, then. Not everyone is pushing to find that solution."

[devoutish]

"Mm, no, most of them aren't unsympathetic to our situation. They want to find escape for our sake, if not for their own."

[termineur]

He nods. "And I'm sure they don't want to die, either, if they can help it. If that's what's in the cards for them back home, I mean." A time traveler had told Sylar that he died alone, no one to mourn him. So his mind is on that possibility.

He sits back, thinking. "There's a lot of 'ifs' and 'maybes' before we start thinking about where people are going, but maybe we'll be able to choose where people go, once we figure it out. Maybe some of them won't have to go home if they don't want to."

[devoutish]

"I think that's what some of them are hoping for. Yeah, even the ones who have got homes to return to." He looks over at Sylar, raising an eyebrow. "And what would you do, given the choice?"

[termineur]

Now that was a question. He didn't think it was a good one to spend too much time on, though. He's tired of pretending that they'd 'escape' somewhere at the end of this. "Me? I don't know. I think we've got a lot to get past before I'm thinking about where I want to go. I'm more focused on making sure we live past Day 300. Or whenever it is that we're supposed to fall to pieces."

[devoutish]

"You might not want to go home, then?"

[termineur]

"It's possible. My entire life changed just before I got here, so I didn't have much I was leaving behind." He shrugs, and sighs. "I just think making plans might be a little...I don't know, premature? There's too much we don't know, about what's going on in this place. Why things are the way they are."

[devoutish]

"I suppose that depends on what those plans are, doesn't it." Alfie considers his to be very simple - and non-negotiable.

[termineur]

Sylar smiles weakly, almost apologetically. "I don't know. I'm worried that we'll find out there is no going back. Or we'll all end up getting stuck going to one place only. A lot of what happened here seems like last-ditch efforts."

[devoutish]

"Dying seems the most likely. Yeah. I don't think we're gonna be stuck here for good, because I don't think this place is gonna last much longer."
