[network][Day 138|video|@hotstud_xxx] You Get What You Need [open]

[There's no pithy commentary from House as is more common for the introductions to one of his piano sessions. It's also on video at the moment because House... can't figure out how to change it to just audio. He really hates this particular effect. So, anyone in Snowhell who has yet to actually see Dr. Hotstud House will get a view of him. He's a haggard, middle-aged man who's looking closer to just plain 'aged' after more than three months in Norfinbury. He has the tablet propped up where the sheet music would usually go, and keeps his eyes down or closed as he begins to play. He mouths some of the words, brows furrowed and body swaying to the music.

He runs through that. And then, because he's not going to be able to play and 'talk' to people at the same time, he moves into another tune before stopping and checking for responses.]

We've got our ways, yeah. D'you know what a meme is? Few of the younger lads were really into sharing those around.
deus_ex_phs: (Surprise)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2016-07-24 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Meme?

[The word doesn't mean anything to him. His world doesn't have anywhere near the same level of social media as John's.]
jumpthegun: (confused | blogging away)

They're, like... funny videos or pictures with words on them or have specific poses that go viral. People imitate them or come up with their own twists or just share them out.

D'you have the Internet back home?
deus_ex_phs: (Heh)

[personal profile] deus_ex_phs 2016-07-25 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Like what we do with the songs, only with images instead?

[He can see how one could evolve to become the other, given the technology to support it.]

We've got some networks, but they're mostly localized and limited access. Something as widespread as what I think you're talking about... I don't think we have any technology that would be cheap enough to implement something like that. The best common technology we have for long distance communication is still voice and text only.

But anyway, as for memes, think I could talk you into showing me an example?
jumpthegun: (srs | what's down there?)

[personal profile] jumpthegun 2016-07-25 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
They're, uh... really all pop culture stuff. I'm not sure they'd make sense to you without the right context. It all just looks like a lot of nonsense most of the time.

Try anyway? Even if you have to give me some backstory first. I'm curious.

It's a little bit hard without the Internet or props for . Well... cats are a big thing. Animals, in general, really, doing random things. There's Keyboard Cat. Someone worked it out so that they could hide and manipulate their cat's paws so it looked like the cat was playing the keyboard. It's really adorable! And funny. Memes are really supposed to make you laugh because they're absurd or just genuinely humorous.

I'm... not really good at this, but give me a mo.

[And a little bit later, Kunsel will be sent meme.jpg with John using his best tablet editing skillz. They aren't that good and the image may be better than actuality.]

Global warming is something that a lot of people from my time are worried about. Ice caps melting, sea levels rising, that sort of thing. There are people who don't believe it's happening in spite of all the scientific evidence. A lot of the really vocal ones are in America.

Wow, you really aren't good at this.

[Hurtful, Angel. He is so mock-hurt.]

Well, you try working with what we've got to come up with something better!

Okay. I'll even get all vintage and twenty-first century about it! Give me a second.

[There's an amused sound from Kunsel's end when he opens both images.]

I think I get it. Thanks.

Let me try one out, though. Hang on.

[It'll take him a few minutes, but then he sends over a quickly doctored image of Mochi.

That's right, you guys. Kunsel has access to an actual cat to help him spawn a cat meme.]

Does that work as a meme?
phaseshifter: (<w<)

[personal profile] phaseshifter 2016-07-27 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Kinda. Ancient traditions dictate that cat memes should generally be misspelled, though. As badly and childishly as possible. Bonus points for fudging the grammar, too! Like I can haz cheezburger, or Hyperion catte is teechin u bout the accuracies.

Those were misspelled in my head, trust me.

I caught the grammar bit from John's picture, which I did account for, but thanks for the tip about spelling.

How about this one, then?

[CATMEME2.0.]

Dude. You did it.

You're a memelord now.

[Okay, even John has to giggle a little at that one.]

Wait 'til we send you viral across Norfinbury, mate.

I think I have competition as Norfinbury's new memelord.
