[There's no pithy commentary from House as is more common for the introductions to one of his piano sessions. It's also on video at the moment because House... can't figure out how to change it to just audio. He really hates this particular effect. So, anyone in Snowhell who has yet to actually see Dr. Hotstud House will get a view of him. He's a haggard, middle-aged man who's looking closer to just plain 'aged' after more than three months in Norfinbury. He has the tablet propped up where the sheet music would usually go, and keeps his eyes down or closed as he begins to play. He mouths some of the words, brows furrowed and body swaying to the music.

He runs through that. And then, because he's not going to be able to play and 'talk' to people at the same time, he moves into another tune before stopping and checking for responses.]

[This dude has a different approach to charades than some of the other people Charlie has tried to talk to since he's been deaf. He's basically a charades master at this point, though. "Time Charlie ear good" isn't a sentence, but he can guess what House is getting at. It's actually easier to decipher than some of the roundabout messages he's been receiving.

In short: House knows what's up.

Charlie saves the video so he can check it out later. Man, he can't wait until he can hear again. In the meantime, House looks pleased, so they must like similar stuff. Charlie wiggles the trumpet, then points at the camera and shrugs curiously.

How about you?]

[The reply to that is going to take more than his charades skills are capable of. House holds up a finger for 'one second,' then reaches for a notepad. A minute or two later, Charlie will receive views of a series of pictures in crayon, pen, and pencil.

First is a woman with a crown on her head, a cape, and a scepter. Queen.

An eagle soaring. The Eagles.

A beetle crawling. The Beatles.

A rock sitting at the top of a hill, then shown rolling down the hill. The Rolling Stones.

A door. The Doors.

A drawing of a pencil with an arrow pointing at the tip, along with a zeppelin. Led Zeppelin.

A nail with a ruler drawn beside it and nine tally marks. Nine Inch Nails.

Various pieces of sound equipment, a yellow spotlight shining on an empty stage, and a group of stick figures holding flutes, violins, and trumpets. Electronic Light Orchestra. Although, Charlie could be forgiven for not getting to that one.

It's a sampling of his musical tastes, but he imagines it gives a decent overview.]

[What! Sweet! This guy is so cool! Charlie gets most of the bands right away; Led Zeppelin takes him a sec because he had never actually considered the whole "lead balloon" thing and, yeah, that last one goes right over his head. Charlie gives an excited two thumbs up before dooting a few notes of Kashmir. He hasn't practiced this one with his hearing intact though, so he fumbles a couple notes. Trumpets aren't really his forte, but he's learning.

When he's done, he dramatically mimes singing and raises an eyebrow. Can you sing too?]

[House nods more in acknowledgement of the tune and Charlie's tastes than his actual playing. That leaves something to be desired, but so it goes. The guy is working with what he has and the inability to actually hear anything. It's impressive for what it is.

At the question, House tilts his head back and forth and waggles his hand. He's a pretty good singer, but he knows it's not his strongest musical aspect. House mimes playing the piano against then playing the guitar. He really wishes he could find a guitar, or find and steal Zell's. Even just the chance to play it again would be amazing.

It's after a moment's thought that House adds his own question for Charlie. He points to the other man, points to himself, hold up four fingers, and then mimes playing the piano. They could play something with four hands potentially. Teaching Quark to play had been rewarding in its own way. Playing with someone who can actually play, as well, would be nice. Even if it's Charlie on the piano and House playing his harmonica, it would be... not horrible to jam with someone who appreciates good music.]

[Sweet! Guitars are rad, also. Charlie's never really had the occasion to play one, but he's always wanted to try it out. He gives House an appreciative nod.

And then he nods again more excitedly at the idea of playing together! Yeah, man! It's been forever since he had a chance to make music with anyone, and that wasn't music so much as his friends banging on their respective instruments. It's good to have something to look forward to other than just his hearing coming back.

It might be awhile before he makes it up to the book building, though. He and Charles just got to the aquarium to help explore the new area. But that's a lot to communicate through charades, and Charlie has maybe forgotten that even though House can't talk, he still can. Whoops.

He mimics House's motion of looking at his wrist and shrugging. Not sure when.]
