[Hope gets the device working after a moment. She's not really sure what to say so.....have a small awkward laugh...]

So .....I'm not dead.

I'm pretty sure I died there but ....I'm not dead? Maybe I just suck at dying. First radiation now exposure. Though at least there I woke up in a medbay with answers and not a morgue and....


....and I'm rambling but ....uh yeah. I think I missed a few days there being ....dead and all but I guess I'm back?

[Small pause]

Okay no really how am I back? If anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them. This is freaking me out a little. I was ready to die there. I accepted it...and suddenly I'm back here.

[Again. Why does she keep coming back and why does she have the feeling that she's forgetting something really important?]

[Clayton remains hopeful. For every name that shows up on the obituary, he thinks about how each of them could be another mistake, like his, and how they could all come crawling out of the woodwork when he checks the network in the morning. Hope is one of them--particularly as a name that he's seen himself talk with comfortably, even if he doesn't remember doing it. She's vibrant and young and never deserved a death out in the frozen wasteland of Norfinbury.]

[Today, it seems he was right to stay hopeful.]

[Clayton's doing a very good job of staying serious in spite of how relieved he is.] I know it ain't the first thing you wanna talk about right now, I'm sure, but I need you to tell me everything you can remember. We can sort this out.

[She died before he came back so this is news. But she's happy at that.]

Everything I remember about dying or after that?

[Wow, this is weird for so many reasons. There's a noticeable pause as Clayton tries to grapple with them and decide which one he wants to focus on first.]

Uh...yeah. Been back for ah...a couple days now, whereabouts.

[Which means, if Hope died before he was revived, she's been dead--unconscious? essentially brain-dead?--for at least three days now. That is much longer than Clayton is prepared to immediately accept. Just going to change the subject instead while he thinks about that.]

Let's start with before. You remember showin' up here, 'fore you woke up in the morgue?

Yeah. I remember waking up here the first time.

[She frowns slightly.]

I think I'm missing something from before that though...

The dying bit? Well I can't say for certain but I've been pretty close to death before and it certainly felt like it. Also I know I didn't hallucinate waking up in a morgue in a church I've never seen before.

[He hadn't recognized her by her name in the obituary. To learn that not one, but two of the names had been people he'd spoken to before...]

Perhaps you did not die. I know that I have come very near death only to be rescued at the last moment. But it...seems as if our mysterious hosts have been lying to us. [@ADMIN always did use "we". He assumes the ID represents more than one person.] But only about some deaths...someone else did find a body, after all...

[He shakes his head, not that she gets anything beyond hearing the rustling of his cloak's hood it causes.]

I don't understand this at all.

You know at this point I'd really like that to be the case. It would make a lot more sense.

I don't know though. All I know is that I pretty much resigned myself to death at a certain point there and then I woke up in a morgue.

[And, unfortunately, the fact that she woke up in a morgue means absolutely nothing to Enoch. He doesn't even know what a morgue is. Though he can sort of make a guess by etymology since they're speaking a defined language and not just nebulously translated, and he can infer it has something to do with death. He still doesn't think that really proves anything, except that she was moved before she woke up.

Actually, something is different about her, as far as he can tell...]

Does anything seem...wrong? The two who have spoken so far have lost something - one his memory, and one his sight.

[Why does this keep happening?

Al feels so conflicted when he hears her voice and the explanation of what happened. There's definite relief there, even some traitorous wiggles of hope for a long-buried mother, but mostly it's sorrow and revulsion.

This cannot be allowed to continue, not even if it gave a second chance to people who deserved one. Death can't be overcome, and it's against the laws of nature to try, he understands that now.]

Are you... are you sure you died? Maybe you just passed out?

[She sighs.]

It was confusing and I at least felt like I was dying. But ...I've felt like that before and survived so maybe?

Like I said. I thought I was dying, I was ready to die again. I made my peace with it and then I woke up in a morgue with no one around to give me answers.

Just the knowledge of that makes him feel cold inside, and it's harder and harder to try and convince himself that she only passed out and somehow was saved.]

It... it could be a trick, they could have put you there specifically to make you think that you'd died.

[ Even after the screaming of the night before, Link had taken to keeping the 'Gossip Phone' open at all times. Remembering that there were people here with him, even if he hadn't come across them yet, was an important thing to focus on.

Still, he's tired and hungry, and probably not really thinking right. He keeps the phone gripped in one hand as he digs through rubble with his other. ]

Might've been near a fairy.

[ The sound of bricks being shoved aside can be heard as he asks the question.

It'd be good to find fairies in this place, even if they weren't likely to be Navi. ]

[ He makes a small noise of assent in his throat. It's only after he shifts another bit of rubble aside that he realizes that that may not have been enough, and offers more explanation. ]

I do. I mean I feel like myself. Even if I didn't die though I don't know why I don't have any symptoms from being out in the cold for so long.

[First Bard, now Hope...it was downright eerie to see their names on consecutive obituaries. Though it hadn't even been very long since he'd seen Hope's name on the network, it still made him ill to think about, especially in regards to America's reaction.

He opts for voice only so she'll recognise him without him having to state his name on the network.]

Dead or not, you're not the only one who's had this experience. Though I'm certain that's obvious by now. [He saw the response from that first fellow who had apparently come back, so.]

I'm afraid I don't have any answers for you, but I'm sure people will be happy about your return. You're not suffering any ill effects from the cold? No sickness or injury?

No, I'm not which makes it all the more strange. I shouldn't be feeling this healthy after that.

[Understatement of the century. It was bad enough looking back to see both he and Clayton had reportedly passed but were still alive and kicking; hearing Hope's name on the next list of the supposed dead had twisted his gut a little. She was far too young to be allowed to die here.]

Don't worry, if I figure it out I'll let everyone else know. If only because it will probably be something insane and I'll need other people to tell me I'm not crazy.
