@standardissue; text -> video - late evening - [private]
We tripped a booby trap in one of the stores downtown. An axe swung at my friend's head. He tried to duck, but didn't manage it completely. Left a nasty gash, and I think he has a concussion. We have him resting on his back now, legs elevated, and I've cleaned the wound with soap and water and sealed it with super glue. Not ideal, I know, but we're working with what we have.
[He switches to video then, making sure the camera is giving John a good view of Zack's wound and what they've done for it. With his free hand, he parts Zack's mess of spiky hair. It's not a bad wound, nothing that someone with a first aid kit couldn't handle, but it's easy to see why Kunsel is concerned.]
[private video]
You did a good job with what you had, Kain. If that starts bleeding again, Just try to apply pressure and get it sealed back up. Head wounds like to bleed, I'm sure you've found. Looks like you've got the first-aid sorted. He might be feeling that
Keep him hydrated. Not moving's not much of an option here for any real length of time, but make sure you lot are taking breaks, even if he says he doesn't need it. Hopefully should have any symptoms clearing up within a week or so. If he gets any worse than he is now in the next day or two, let me know. We might have a more serious problem on our hands.
D'you have any medicine with you? Acetaminophen? Think they call it Tylenol out here in the States. He's gonna have a hell of a headache if he doesn't already. If you can avoid it, try not to give him any aspirin, especially not just now. It'll thin his blood out and make bleeding against more likely.
[private video]
He listens to everything that Dr. Watson says, mentally noting every suggestion and caution. They all align with his own instincts and what limited training he's had for how to deal with injuries like this.
But...]
Aspirin... Damn. [He draws his hand back with a mutter of mixed frustration and dismay.] I'm glad you warned me. That's the only medicine we have that I would have trusted... [There's a pause as he trails off, and when he starts speaking again, he sounds wary of what he's even about to say.] Unless morphine sulfate is something less dangerous than morphine?
[private video]
Give him the aspirin if you have to. Don't give him the morphine. The side effects for that would mask any actual worsening symptoms.
I dunno if I can actually prescribe over-the-counter drugs, but I can give it a go. Sorry about this, Kain.
[private video]
Got it.
[He releases a breath, scrubbing a hand through his hair off screen.]
I'm hesitant to tax whatever resources the Admin still has, but in this case I think it's justified, and acetaminophen's not much to ask for. I'd appreciate that, Doctor. I'm sure Zack will, too.
[If it works. If it doesn't, then they're no worse off than before.]
And I'm assuming the morphine sulfate is something I shouldn't consider giving anyone without a doctor's prescription?
[private video]
Yeah. Please call me before giving that to anyone. Morphine's serious stuff, whatever form it's in. The wrong dosage can shut down your lungs. It's a worst case scenario sort of pain-reliever.
[private video]
[Just the thought of the possibilities is terrifying, even if he'd already known enough not to give it to Zack without asking a doctor's opinion.]
You're not anywhere near downtown, are you? I think I'd be happier putting this in a doctor's hands.

If you've got your hands full right now, I'll let you go. Thank you for the consultation.

Heh. Maybe I will. Or maybe I'll just take point next time.
[Casual as that last remark is, it's said with an underlying hint of steely resolve. John might recognize it as the kind of tone a soldier takes when his friends have been threatened or hurt. The others are going to find out just how stubbornly protective he can be when they find the door that opens to their new key.]
Anyway, I'll keep in touch.
[A gloved hand comes into view just long enough to turn the tablet off.]
Day 115 - text
He's doing better, though I'm still keeping an eye on him.
Thanks again.

(assume this was all still private, forgot to put that in)
[Or maybe there's curative powers in adrenaline rushes, because they did just get chased by a monster. A monster that's still lurking outside, and occasionally trying to find ways in.
No reason to bring that up, though. There's nothing John or any of them can do beyond what they're already doing.]
Should I worry at all about making sure he sleeps tonight?
[Because that might be a thing.]
no subject
[Sorry, Kunsel. That's just going to make him wonder and worry.]
no subject
[No worse than usual, anyway, but that's a different matter, and not one that Kunsel feels like he needs to address with Watson. Certainly not without talking to Zack first.
But it looks like mentioning the monster is now medically relevant.]
We have a monster outside, though. We seem safe enough right now, but how important is it that he sleeps?
no subject
Do what you can, but if he stays up with something clawing at the door, it should be fine. As fine as you can get, I mean. Just try to get a little rest during the day when you get away from that thing.

Alright. I'll do my best.
I think that covers all my concerns for now, unless there's something else you can think of.
Thanks again, Doctor.
