Audio/Action to SL; Day 83; Light it Up, Up, Up
Hey, it's me. I dunno about the rest of you out there, but me and Kain both couldn't move when we woke up this morning. Kinda like those injections but worse. [ Not that those weren't... horrible in the first place. But this is... The volume of his voice lowers but he's no less serious with his next words. ]
It felt like something was in our heads only it was warm instead of cold. Tch... [ He grunts in frustration. ]
The anomalies were gone after that. Seems like that app made no difference. 'least to us. Maybe it's different for you. Lemme know. We might as well take a head count here.
[ He debates on cutting it off right then but... something makes him pause. When he next speaks, there's something more authoritative in his tone. If even just a little bittersweet nostalgic, too. ] And hey... you be careful out there. The storm's pretty bad. I better not see any of your names on the next obituary. You hear me?
[ And that's that.
Now, it's a matter of playing the waiting game... and maybe sitting in a corner, compiling all the photographic evidence he collected from the morgue in the hospital. ]

because srs talk might be ending soon
Now that it's over and Zack is finished with sharing on the network, Zell walks over to plop down beside him. There were a couple of topics he wants to hit, but the monsters were the more pressing of issues.]
Does the paralyzing happen often? [He's only got hit with it once before as far as far as he knows.] Were you thinking about the person the monster was pretending to be when they went away?
The most serious of talks mm'kay
But for real, he can't really blame Zell for freaking out like he did. It's not really anything comforting to wake up to. At least it's over with though. At least they can move again. It... still doesn't change that it happened and that something's gone. He knows it. He might not be able to remember it, but he remembers the feeling, the way he felt like he was shouting in his head for it to stop, don't. But that's all he has left.
He'd rubbed his eyes quick after that, hoping no one would see. No one needed anymore to worry about among them. So, when Zell drops down next to him, Zack hesitates only momentarily before he looks up from his tablet. There's a frown... and then a shake of his head. ]
No. No, it wasn't them. It was someone else. [ Who? He wasn't sure. But whatever memory it had been... his heart's still aching. It had to have been something important. And now it's... gone. He grimaces at the thought before pressing on. ]
And as far as that paralysis goes, it seems to happen whenever the administrator decides to mess with us. I wanna say this is the fourth time it's happened to me.
no subject
Zell doesn't regret not waiting. Less monsters made things easier and safer for everyone. He's also very much okay with skipping the whole paralysis time on the floor.
It won't be clear if he saw Zack rubbing his eyes or not. He is helping himself to lean partially against the Soldier though.]
Guess that's the difference then. [He knows he was thinking of his own personal monster when he lost something important associated with the asshole.
WAIT. Fourth time? Looking over at Zack to openly gape at him.] The hell? That many times? Really? [He believes Zack. It's just freaky to think about being unable to move that many times. He knows it's not Jim's first rodeo with it too, but wow.] You've been here for about two months, right?
no subject
Remembering it's been three months still doesn't make him feel any better about this. That's three months they've failed to find a way out. But voicing that's not gonna do them any good, is it. So, instead, he'll nudge at Zell as he leans on him, looking back down at his screen. ] I don't doubt we'll probably have another just around the corner- ...Hey, Kunsel just put something up.
[ Curious as to what it is, here's Zack accessing the video and staring.... and staring some more....
...................... ]
no subject
Reaching over to help himself to mussing with Zack's hair to break some of the somber mood. He does not need to think about that. He has to concentrate on now.]
I hope not. Yeesh...[Huh? Kunsel? He looks around to see if he can spot the other half of the Soldier duo.] It is weird not seeing him. What did he post about? [Peeking over at Zack's screen.]
no subject
Especially not when he has his eyes fixed on something else. It's only the hand in his hair that finally gets him remembering that Zell's sitting there with him and he blinks back into focus if not letting out a sudden, indignant grunt. ]
That asshole. [ This is Zack shuffling suddenly to his feet with his tablet stuffed away into his pocket. He's already on the move as he throws over his shoulder: ] Back in a minute. [ Then he's picking up the pace to track down his best buddy and give him a PIECE OF HIS MIND. ]
/o/ idk
Alright, man. [The pair of Soldiers messing around isn't anything new. Pulling out his own tablet just to see what he's up to.
Oh.] Huh?
[It's probably something only they get. After a while, he chats to Stephanie. That conversation gets cut short as soon as he sees Zack using himself as a battery ram.
Zell scrounges through his stuff to pull out his lock-pick and help a bro out
After all of that madness, Zell is back in the spot again playing on his tablet.]
no subject
He breathes a long sigh as he runs a hand through his hair with a soft groan. ] Just when I thought I'd heard the last of that thing... Sheesh. [ A pause and then he mutters Zell's way. ] Do me a favor and not quote from it, too.
O
[Poetry wasn't his thing anyways. Putting his tablet down as he looks at Zack for a moment or two as if considering something.] Do you think it was better to wait for the admin to fix it in the end? The monster.
[Half the group waited, so it'll be interesting and a bit scary to see what happens.]
no subject
Zack tucks a bit further into himself, his gaze going distant. ] What was the point of that app? It didn't change anything. Still lost something. And the anomalies went with them...
no subject
[It is a little funny that it was the three youngest who dove on in as soon as possible to try the app out.]
[Wait...] Whoa. Did you want them to stay? [He reaches over to put a hand on Zack's forehead. Feeling okay, dude?] Did yours mean something?
no subject
It's not like I wanted them to- The one just looked like someone I used to know from home, but... [ He shakes his head slowly. ] That's impossible. [ Or at least... maybe he just wants it to be impossible in this case. The idea of him coming back like that...
Gaia, he hates this place. ]
no subject
Zell is just going to turn his hand around to hold on to it a moment or two. He had planned on asking for his hand anyways. Letting go and letting his hand drop to his side.]
You used to have a friend that look like that? Was he a summon or did it warp your friend like it did with that guy having a Marlboro in him. [which was pretty weird and disgusting on it's own.]
Mine looked like someone I grew up with. A member of the orphanage crew that's a complete asshole, but he's still family. [Feelings suck and loyalty could suck big time.]
no subject
Instead, he clears it as best as he can, snagging onto that deflection to his own. Intentional or not, Zack's taking that card out of the pits of his own demons. Still, he pauses perhaps longer than necessary before idling prodding: ] ...Sounds like you've got an interesting family back home, hm?
[ Come to think of it... He's never asked Zell about it. They're always so busy with, well... everything there. ]
no subject
Helping himself to sliding an arm behind Zack and placing a hand on his shoulder. TAKE THIS AFFECTION.]
Yeah, something like that. There was seven of us who were pretty close. [Not that he actually remembers much of it, but the feelings are still there when he's near them. A bond that didn't break even when there's nothing there as a backdrop for it.]
And there's my Ma who adopted me. I think you would like her. She's the one everyone looks to for strength in my town. [They might talk shit about Zell, but they certainly looked to her for strength. Much like some guy sitting next to Zell.] What about yours?
no subject
Does he need.... more affection than you know.Zack at least doesn't seem to mind when Zell slings his arm around him like that. In fact, he might be reaching up and gently patting the hand on his shoulder. Really... He's picked up on things enough to know he's got good intentions and he appreciates it. Even if sometimes they can lead to foot in mouth.
He nods lightly at that explanation, expression turning just a bit incredulous at the mention of seven. Already, questions spin in his head. But one thing at a time. Especially when Zell continues on. Zack's humming again and this time, well. He still can't hide that far off look for a beat, but then he nods to himself again and shrugs a little. ] My mom was much the same. Well, maybe not someone that the whole town looked to, but she was definitely a strong lady. [ There's a hint of upturned lips on this end. ] Tell you one thing. You did not want to get on her bad side.
no subject
So many ups and downsSeven only being the ones he was close to. War time sucks, man. He's watching Zack for a moment to try to read his expressions. He's only finally getting Jiminese, but Zack is pretty different.] I bet with raising you. [He isn't trying to tease and Zack could discern that he's trying to give a compliment from his expression.] You got in trouble a lot, huh? [Not surprised with seeing all the mischief him and Kunsel get into with each other] I did too.
no subject
Nah, for real, he can gauge enough between when Zell's joking when he's serious. That's still the weirdest way he could have possibly complimented him, but eh. He's also used to Zell weird at this point. Though talk of getting in trouble? Oh, yeah. That's getting something more of a smile out of him. ]
What kind of trouble are you talking about? [ You share yours and he'll share his! ]
no subject
Rude, don't turn this around to be about him. Looking up as he parses through what memories that remain. Grinning a bit as he nudges the other.]
The climbing on everything and being loud kind of trouble. Ma probably wished we didn't live right by the ocean during that time.
[He probably gave her near heart attacks by messing around on the docks, or climbing onto boats.]
You know those signs that have over roads to tell you where you're at or give you directions to go? I climbed up one of those on my own.
no subject
But of course, he's going to make it about you- at least for now. Come to think of it, they haven't really had a chance to real talk like this considering everything that's been going on...
That doesn't change the way that he chuckles suddenly. ] Sounds like something we would'a done when we were bored back at the barracks. Though come to think of it, I used to like to climb the trees around Gongaga. Well- at least when I was younger. [ Belatedly, he blinks at the slip. Then just shakes his head. ]
no subject
Climb trees in other places when you're older? [Teasing before throwing it back to Zack.]
What kind of trouble did you get at the barracks?
[Maybe he'll hear a story about Kunsel or some other friend of Zack's! The only barracks stories he knows aren't his own. Ward used to think a lot about all the good times and adventure he had with his two friends.]
no subject
The first question earns a nod from him. The second? That's where a small grin of amusement crosses his face. Oh, the stories he could tell... Zell, you really missed out on barracks life, man. ]
All kinds. Let's see now... [ He takes that moment to raise a hand and start counting off on his fingers. ] There was that one time we turned half the barracks into Touch Mes. Accident there. Was just going for this one guy. Um... Oh! Communal showers. Sometimes we used to really soap up the floors and slide around on them. They really liked that. Heh. Someone once bet me to go streaking or did I lose the bet? Can't remember now. I'm pretty sure it was the first way around though...
[ He goes on, listing off another handful of things before he finally stops and this time, his grin is a lot more real than before. ] Of course, no spreading this all around. It could ruin my reputation as SOLDIER.

Crossing his legs and perching his chin in his hands as he listens to Zack. He might have to share the soap on tile idea to Jim later on if they can find a place they could skate around on. They can drag the others in, too. Sure, they could just skate on the frozen pond, but this would be a lot more fun.
The clincher to all of this was the part about ruining his reputation. Zell chortles at that as gives a smartass look.]
Don't think you'll have to worry about that ruining it. [Teasing lightly. The group have been quite the influence to his jokes and it shows.]
What's a Touch Me? [And why are they even called that?]
