Theseus was the prince of Athens, and one day, the king of one of the nearby islands, Minos, showed up and told Theseus and his father that Minos' son had died in Athens. He was pretty pissed off, so he told Theseus and his father that they had to give up seven Athenian women every year as tribute so that Minos could feed them to this monster, the Minotaur, who lived in the center of a labyrinth.
