[network | open] @QUARK; let’s make some friends ; DAY 015
VIDEO, OPEN;
Hello? Um…
[Quark had more or less turned on the Network feed without really thinking. His puffy-eyed young face blinks warily at the tablet screen. He had something important to say, but the second that he started recording it was like he’d completely forgotten what it was. His cold face begins to color in embarrassment.]
Is everyone doing alright after last night? I mean…I know that nobody’s really doing very well, but I heard we weren’t supposed to fall asleep in case the brain eating people invaded our dreams and took us over! I accidentally did fall asleep, though…but I think I’m still me, so I just wanted to make sure everyone else is, too!
[He supposes that, technically, he wouldn’t really know whether or not anybody is still themselves because he hasn’t talked to too many people, yet. But…it seems only polite to ask!]

@TW; text
everybody fell asleep if it's anything like the last times.
it makes us sleep so it can administer the shots
and if my brain got eaten then I haven't noticed so no big loss there
no subject
[Quark feels a little embarrassed--not that he could've known any of that.]
The last times? This has happened before?
[And more than once? Wait...
Quark's expression darkens with a whole new shade of concern.]
So that shot really happened? I thought it was just part of a dream!
[A really vivid dream, but a dream none the less.]

( Because what. Just what. )

and the thing where you couldn't move after wasn't, either. that happens every time too
I think this is the third time
it always happens after bad things go down
worse things than normal, I mean
even for this place

[He says with way too much enthusiasm. The idea had terrified him the night before, and well, it still kind of did, but it also seems way more cool, too. At least, cool when he's not actually getting his brain eaten, which he's pretty confident that he's not.]
The guy with, uh...well, his name was listed as claytonator? I think. He was talking about how things here want to take us over in our sleep!
no subject
[Quark didn't like getting mystery shots, and he was sure he shared that sentiment with probably...well, everyone. Who knew what could be in their systems!]
That's not nice at all. And...
[He frowns, thinking. It's really weird, too. If the things here just wanted to take over their brains, why didn't they do that while everyone was asleep? Why put stuff in their systems?]
I don't get it...why would we need some sort of shot? Whoever brought us here doesn't seem to care about how happy or safe we are, so it can't be anything good, right?
[But then if it wasn't anything good, why bother with the effort to begin with? Arugh, this was making his head hurt. Maybe it was all a brain-eating ploy to get them riled up over something silly!]

exactly
nobody knows what the shots ARE for, thought. it's just safe to assume they're not as benign as the admin wants us to believe
I mean yeah sure they seem to make things better but. who knows what ELSE they do
not trying to scare you here btw. tell me if I do
no subject
They come after us when we sleep because we can't control our dreams so our minds are all undefended!
Be careful, okay?
no subject
It's okay! I can handle it. I'm pretty big, so I don't scare so easy.
[He was scared when he first woke up because everything was so disorienting, and last night when his head was hurting really really badly, but Quark feels like that was all understandable. He's determined not to let all of that be a habit. He needs to stay cool under pressure, and make his Grandpa proud.]
Thanks for telling me about the shots. Even though nobody knows what they're for or anything, it's still good to keep those kinda things in mind.

pretty big.
[ Tim is not a tall guy, but he's pretty sure he's allowed to raise an eyebrow at that. In fact, why not go nuts? Both eyebrows. ]
how old are you exactly
no subject
[It didn't work the first time, and he didn't try the second time, but Quark can't help trying again. He keeps as straight a face as he can...for all of five seconds before rubbing the back of his neck.]
Okay, I'm ten.
no subject
man you almost had me fooled
find a fake beard and you could pass for thirty tbh
realtalk though ten isn't "big" or w/e
ten
TEN jfc
are you with anyone? or are you alone
no subject
[Quark's eyes light up. Nobody's ever said that before! It's always been wow kid, you're so small and do you need a stool to reach the countertop?]
Cool! I'm totally going to do that!
[Not that he's very confident he'll be able to find a fake beard, here...maybe he can make one out of snow...]
What? It isn't? I don't think it's too bad. I have a job and everything!
[Oh, but a serious question.]
I'm alone. I've been in the same house for a couple of days now...but I think I'm going to get moving soon.
no subject
ok you should really try coordinating with somebody so you're not by yourself
try and find out if anybody is near any landmarks YOU'RE near and meet up
like I'm not saying you can't deal w/things by yourself. you're doing great
better than me probably tbh
but being by yourself isn't good
no subject
I know who you're talking about. I simply assumed he was being overly paranoid.
( After all, it's morning now and she feels better than she'd previously anticipated. )
video - @claytonator
[Looks like he has some explaining to do. Clayton shows up on his end of the feed looking more than a little sheepish, especially now that he's discovered that the person he gave all that information to is only a child. Christ, he's ballsed this one up in a bad way. Time for damage control.]
Hey there bud. I'm that fella you were talkin' to last night--you remember? [That's kind of a silly question, but Clayton still feels obligated to ask. He awkwardly scratches the back of his neck.] I, uh...wasn't thinkin' quite right, then. There ain't no brain-eatin' people. I'm sorry I made you lose sleep over that.

[Sure, the whole thing was way scarier and pressing and panic-worthy the night before, but even now it had to have some merit, right?]
It's always better to be safe than sorry!
no subject
[It's not very fun out here. Even if he believes that he can survive without the extra help, that certainly doesn't mean that he wants to have to do it that way.]
I'll do my best to find somebody. Promise!
[Not that he knows what tbh means. But hey he gets the picture.]
no subject
sounds like a sensible plan. maybe you don't actually need the beard to seem grown-up after all
I mean the beard is still a good idea, don't give up on that
I'm just saying it's not a necessity when you're being all smart about things, you know?
no subject
I remember.
[He thought it would be polite to say something even though, concerning everything else...his brain is more or less blank. Which, coincidentally, would be great to defend against those brain eating people who, apparently, don't exist.]
But you said.
[Yes, a brilliant argument. Quark can feel his face coloring in embarrassment, and is tempted to switch to text to avoid letting it show. In the end, he decides to stay strong.]
You told everybody! It couldn't have all been a lie...right?

[Option 1: He could admit that he wasn't lying, and that he really did think--still thinks--that there are Shades here, and perhaps one of them is strong enough to have lead that kind of mental assault. It wouldn't be the first time. But then he'd be opening himself up to questions about how he knows this information and what kind of skills he has in defending against them, as well as unnecessarily sending everyone into another panic about having their minds invaded and picked apart. If the reactions he got from his post last night were any indication, they aren't ready for that kind of stress yet.]
[Option 2: He could lie about lying. It would disappoint Quark and possibly others that put stock in his opinions, which isn't ideal, but it would save him from having to explain his powers or admitting that Shades are a very real threat, and it seems like an easy out to blame his overreaction and paranoia on Its influence.]
[Long-term or short-term consequences. For Clayton, the right choice seems obvious. He turns back to the camera and hangs his head.]
...I'm sorry. My head weren't in the right place, but that don't excuse me from lyin' t' all y'all 'bout somethin' so serious. I hope y'all can forgive me.
