[ He missed the spotlight that morning, but he's certainly woken up to something... strange. Is that... someone singing? It's coming from his tablet. Which he's pretty sure he let it go to sleep or something. Nothing comes from it unless he activates it, he's pretty sure. But... it's also new technology. So, you never know. He'll try not to sound annoyed at least. ] hey. I'm not sure who's singing and it's not like it's bad but. could you uh. stop doing it on here? [ At least it woke him up so he can remember to footnote this though. ] by the way anyone know a place to pick up some grub? I think I'm good for a few more days yet but a guy's gotta eat you know?
still no luck on that screwdriver Tadashi?

[ ...And that singing is. Still happening. And no one knows the source. And that should be creepy to him. Like. Very creepy. But there's also something about it... like it's meant to be soothing.
Like hell he's gonna follow it. Like hell he's gonna go crazy like Sephiroth. Especially as it seems to fight him. Makes a slow pressure start to build up in his head every single time it seems to be almost... unhappy with where he's walking. Silhouettes of someone... or something in the corner of his eye. Get a grip, Zack.
A distraction. He needs a distraction. ]
that singing's really gotta stop. it's giving me a headache. think I would rather be a frog at this point.

[ Anyone who responds to him might notice that as time wears on, his own responses slowly become more and more infrequent. Time lapses more and more between them. By the evening, he quits responding at all. Maybe he went to sleep...? Wanna leave a voicemail? ]

Morning | text @Enoch
If you attempt to find the center of this place, you should run across a school, or at least that's how I found it. Beware, you cannot stay the night there, and you will be forced out if you try to remain. There is plenty of food there, however.
[The singing, he doesn't comment on. He appreciates it, actually, it's kind of soothing. It's making him a little sleepy, in fact, a heaviness behind his eyes. He's not even checking the network for its source, content to just let whoever is singing do so.]
no subject
Hopefully. As it stands, Zack hums at that in thought. ] can't stay there overnight. lots of food there. got it. guess it's just a matter of finding the center. [ Tricky when the place is usually so overcast. What he would do for a compass right about now... ] wait. someone runs you out or?
Morning Text | @Technicalities
[As for the singing...]
You're hearing the song, too? I haven't found a way to completely turn it off yet. I don't think anyone we know would be doing this. Something's not right with it.
no subject
At least there's a little plus to things. Flashlight's always a good thing. Plus- ] a convenience store? lucky! the most I've found is a few worn down houses so far.
wait. who's mochi?
no subject
[A part of him wonders if it has anything to do with that beam of light. Their group tends to be up and moving early, so Tadashi got a glimpse of it before it shorted out.]
that's all I found for my first week. I can't tell you how great it is to restock. I think I ate enough to make me sick -- I don't recommend that part. If you want, I can try to give you some directions based on what I've seen. Steph is working on a map. I can ask her to talk to you if you haven't been in touch yet.
Also, Mochi is my aunt's cat. He's gotta be 20lb. The Norfinbury diet hasn't affected him at all.
no subject
The mention of the cat though-- he'll have to put the map business on hold. Just momentarily as he chuckles behind his tablet if not with a wince. Figuring familiarity, he taps his audio on and Tadashi will hear the tail end of that chuckle. ] So, wait. Did I hear this right? They kidnapped your aunt's cat, too?
no subject
If you can believe that. I don't know what they were thinking. He's not exactly light. And as far as I can tell, there's no reason to have brought him. You haven't lived until you've seen him try to walk through this snow, though.
Wait, here--
[There's the sound of Tadashi fumbling with his tablet for a few moments, then the video cuts in, showing a flash of Tadashi's several layers (cardigan, blazer, jacket) before he gets the camera aimed at the overfed Japanese bobtail. The cat stays properly in frame for all of five second before he decides that he needs attention and headbutts the tablet. Tadashi laughs and shoves the cat away as he turns the camera around to show his face.]
See what I mean?
no subject
If only there were some obvious cause we could see to prepare for. My body simply moved on its own when the tablets began warning us to find shelter. There was no trace of wanting to leave in my mind, it was as if my body was a puppet and the strings had been taken from my hands.
no subject
Well, that's unsettling. Admittedly, good to know, but. Still. Very creepy.
He doesn't even know exactly how to respond to that at first. Give him a few minutes here to let that sink in.
... ]
that's crazy! how in the all hells did they do something like that? [ The very thought of someone having that much control over anyone's body there sends chills down his spine. ]
I'm enjoying the fact that as I'm replying to this, I am accompanied by my own Mochi-like big kitty.
Just wow.
Zack doesn't bother holding back the sudden snicker that sneaks out of him at the sight of that big, round furball as it briefly makes its appearance. He kinda starts a bit when the camera flips and there's Tadashi, front and center all of a sudden. He's still getting used to weird camera phones, okay. PHSes weren't that hardcore-- yet anyway.
Nice as Tadashi seems to be, Zack doesn't flip his on in turn. Maybe it's too much stupid paranoia on his part, but. He's still getting settled in. Give him time. ]
Man, that is one huge cat! No wonder you ate yourself sick! Gaia, he probably eats you outta house and home! [ There's a pause as he shakes his head, chuckling. ] Maybe that's why they catnapped him. [ To make your life harder than it already is. 8| It's kinda a bad taste in jokes, but work with him here. ]
Same! Haha, mine keeps flopping on my wrist while I try to type.
You know... I don't doubt it. If someone is watching us make our way through this mess, I bet they laugh every time I dump Mochi into my messenger bag and trek another mile through the snow. I must have lost feeling in my shoulder three days in.
Totally a cat-tastrophe all right up in this space. fff
So, you said someone was working on a map? [ He had been trying to get his hands on one, himself. Would be very, very helpful at this point. Especially if it would mean finding that convenience store. ]
no subject
The only clue I have may not even be a clue at all. While I heard nothing unusual, the tablet heard a low buzzing noise. I'm not certain if that has anything to do with it, but it was only audible as I was leaving the building.
no subject
[Between her and Al, Tadashi felt like he could rely on one of them to alert him if there was even a hint of something important coming up.]
I would recommend talking to her the first chance you get. She's the one who organized that survey at the beginning.
no subject
I'll have to get a hold of her then. What's her name on here?
no subject
I wouldn't know what to tell you either. but thanks for letting me know. [ He would rather not feel out of control of his body again. He's had four years worth of that already. ] anything else I should know?
no subject
You won't want to try to weather the night outside. This snowfall is unnatural in every way, and always intensifies after the doors lock. I have known nobody to say they have survived a night outside of locked shelter.
There doesn't seem to be a way to open the doors once they are locked, either.
no subject
[There's a brief pause as he taps out the letters, then:]
@Spoiler
If she doesn't get back to, just give me a shout and I can talk to her.
no subject
know someone's been trying to figure out the locks. no luck on that so far though.
no subject
no subject
[What else was there...they'd covered the creepy school and the curfew...]
Do you need any hints about surviving in the cold, then? My knowledge may be from the desert, but I still may be able to help.
no subject
no subject
The reason it's still not totally applicable is there's rarely precipitation, and the cold here is all about it.]
Discard nothing that could be used to make clothing. I've seen few clothing items here to begin with, so even if you find something that does not fit you, it may fit someone else with worse luck.
Exertion will keep you warm, so moving quickly may be tempting, but do not let your energy wane while you are still outside, because your body can cool very quickly after you stop. If you aren't sure, move steadily instead.
[He doesn't know the science of it, but it's happened to him often enough. This time, however, he doesn't have a quartet of large birds to fly down and keep him warm if he messes up.]
If you do not have proper footwear, the mattresses here are made of a pliant foam that traps heat very well, if you can find a way to cut the mattress open. Tie off the top of your shoes if you do have closed shoes on; the snow can easily fall into them and that is quite uncomfortable.
That's all that immediately comes to mind for now. Was it of any help?
[Honestly, it might be things he already knew, for all he knows. But he's not going to just assume and leave people to fates he could have helped them avoid. Besides, putting all his thoughts down in one place helps him, too, if it turns out someone else needs this advice.]
no subject
He smiles as he types. ] a big help. thanks! didn't even think about the mattresses. i'll definitely keep that in mind now though. [ He tries to think of what else to even say to all of that, but he's kinda drawing blanks. In the end though, well.. ] i'll let you know if i find out anything new about this place. [ Passing back information might be a good way to show gratitude. ]
