This is for Stephanie primarily, but I'm leaving it open for anyone else who wants to see.
I'm sharing it in hopes of finding someone interested in helping me the next time I go ghost hunting at the school.

[What follows are three days' worth of notes into what Shiro has been doing in the school.]

If anyone has experienced anything similar to that, Please let me know.

[ Jim managed to break away from emotional conversations long enough to check the network and he's just listening to this one in bafflement. Ghost hunting sounds cool, but he really only understands every third word of those notes. Still: ]

Did you check out the music room? From what I've heard it's got ghosts, too. They help you play the instruments.

I only looked in there briefly. I'll make a note to check that room more thoroughly next time.

[He's got a few things he needs to do to prepare for a second trip, so he can try to learn a bit about instruments in that time.]

I gotta admit, I don't really play any instruments.

Yeah, me either, but a buddy of mine that does passed through there recently and he was telling me about it. If you go back far enough on the network, a guy made a whole video of a guy playing songs from his world with them.

[ Nope, Jim is not repeating 'Doctor Hot Stud's' user name. ]

[That really is a terrible username isn't it?]

Huh. Well I guess we do need some kind of entertainment here. There's only so much you can do with snow, snow, and more snow.

[ THE WORST. ]

Snowboarding was pretty sweet, but I guess it can't really compete with musical ghosts.

[ Speaking of - ]

If you're serious about the ghost hunting, I know another place you should check out.

[lionson]

Oh?

[Yes, he is very serious about the ghost hunting.]

Do tell.

Yeah, there's a house in the east we found. Spent two days clearing junk out of this one room and in the end we found two suicides. Looked like a parent and a child.

[ His voice is low by the time he finishes speaking, but not hesitant. ]

But that wasn't all. There were two ... whatever. Ghosts. Didn't try to do anything, just followed us with their eyes.

[lionson]

[Now this is interesting.]

Did they say anything?

[rattlingthestars]

No, just stood there and stared at us. The whole place had a really bad feeling, too, like when you get too close to a monster.

[ -oh. Wait. ]

-nose bleed, headache, like that.

[lionson]

Was it only the usual 'too close to monsters' things? Or was it different in any way?

[After a moment, he adds a bit more to explain his thought process.]

I'm trying to figure out if the ghosts are the same as the monsters, or different. If they're from a different source like I think they might be, then that might give us a clue as to what happened to the people here.

[ After a few minutes, a link to this post arrives in Shiro's inbox ]

It felt exactly like the monsters to me - nearly as bad as getting killed by one, at the end, and that was taking turns with going in and out of the room.

I've heard the monsters might be the townspeople themselves. First they die, then they turn into those shadow-things, then they turn into monsters.

[lionson]

[Shiro is nodding along as he listens.]

Or perhaps, when someone dies, their body becomes a monster and their soul becomes a ghost? It would explain why they feel the same, they're two halves to a whole. And it would also explain why we haven't turned into monsters: when we're brought back to life our soul is with our body, so neither turns into something else.

[rattlingthestars]

- huh.

[ Jim's not exactly religious - he's never given much thought to it at all - but that sounds ... possible. If you believed in ghosts, and Jim does since seeing them with his own eyes, you had to believe in souls.

Except: ]

Only thing that doesn't fit with that is that there are ghost-things inside the monsters. They're just mean ghost things.
