[network] @ADMIN; Arrival

@Pandora; audio; morning 187
Leaving the room shows her more furniture, and a bag filled with strange food, and a staircase, and bookcases that are mostly empty but not entirely, and a little tool made of metal, and cabinets that open and close, and taps that run cold water when you turn them, and windows, and another door that's also unlocked - and beyond that door, something amazing.
And then she discovers the tablet, with all the unfamiliar people talking on it about unfamiliar things, and she looks through it for a while, transfixed. There's so much welling up inside her, so many feelings itching to get out, and she suddenly wants to share it all with the people the way they're sharing their thoughts and feelings with each other. And so she clicks it into record mode.]
It's beautiful, beautiful, beautiful--
[Maybe that's a bad way to start. Repeating the same word over and over again doesn't make her sound very clever, and if she doesn't sound clever the people might not want to talk to her. She thinks back to the vocabulary lessons from the classroom and grabs some synonyms to use instead.]
It's gorgeous, stunning, exquisite, striking, transcendent. It sparkles like I think crystals do.
[She shuffles forward out of the house (which is mysterious, gloomy, obfuscous, Stygian, lonely) and bends, reaching out to touch the snow with a bare finger. She lets out a quiet cry of surprise.]
And it's cold!
[She knows that snow is cold, of course, but it still sends a shock through her system. It's the coldest thing she's ever touched; the coldest thing she's ever imagined. She does and doesn't want to touch it again. She looks back to the tablet, still recording audio.]
Am I on the other side of the big door?

[She isn't sure what to say, suddenly. Is this still the base? He mentions Florida, which she's never heard of, but it sounds like maybe it's a region or a city, so--]
I'm from Region 6.

Jesus Christ, this is uncomfortably familiar. There's a lot he wants to ask, but knows he probably shouldn't.
She gets the rare video feed, but he keeps it private. Can't have everyone figuring out where he is. As usual, he's showing a bit more of the left half of his face than the right.]
Hey. Pandora, right? What do you see around you? I might be able to help you figure out where you are.
[And just because he's curious-] Also, how old are you?
no subject
[But then, pretty much any house would seem very big to her.]
I think I can send you a picture. Would you like one?
[Please say yes please say yes. She's never taken a picture of something before and she'd really, really like to.]

She smiles reassuringly, even though - Pandora doesn't look like she needs to be reassured. She doesn't look scared.]
Hi, Pandora. I'm Claire. I just wanted to say hello, introduce myself. I'm a nurse, back where I'm from, so if you get hurt, I'm happy to help you. Have you found out where you are in town yet?
no subject
I'm in a house, but there are lots of houses, and I haven't found which one yet. But it's a very nice house, even though it's old and empty and lonely.

You should find someone to travel with. It gets really lonely even with the tablet to talk to people.
[Enough people have asked about the big door already, so he'll skip that question.]

That's an optimistic way of describing it. You've got a pretty impressive vocabulary.

And yet, the loneliness he's imposed on himself weighs heavily on his mind. He can't keep to isolation, and can't bear the guilt of leaving this be now that he's seen it. He has ignored children before - but when they were in good hands. When they had immediate protection. This, he cannot.]
Hello, Pandora. My name is Enoch. Would you mind one more person to talk to?

[On the contrary, her tone says that she'd love it. The feelings of being overwhelmed haven't hit her yet.]
